I am trying to find out if a Spiller and Burr 36 cal black powder pistol is genuine or a remake. Did any of the original guns have "black powder only" stamped on the barrel?

Look at the right side of the frame between the cylinder and trigger guard next to the proof marks. There should be 1 or 2 letters and maybe Roman numerals. Tell us what you see and it can be looked up on a date of manufacture chart.

It faintly looks like the date code is XX9 which would make it 1973; or XX8 which would be 1972
