If you live in NY or whatever perhaps you should keep it all sealed and unbroken.
NY is no longer part of the 2nd Amendment. They have decided (the politicians) to render their own castrated.

I have bought firearms that did not have a spent case and one that even had the wrong caliber case included.
The wrong case I just threw away. Just bought a new .45 that didn't have a case.
I suppose some states or govt. agencies might have a requirement for it. Once the little envelope is opened, as I have done, any chain of evidence is broken.

How about " Keep it because it is part of the stuff that came in the box." ?

that's what I do. I rarely sell guns but I keep all the boxes with all the original contents in case I ever do decide to sell one. it's only happened twice and neither time did it do me any good but I do it anyway.

Ever wonder how many crimes have been solved because of this requirement?
I'd guess it's single digits. But, that's just a guess.

Everyone does realize that after a couple hundred rounds, the markings on the spent cases are different, right? To be really effective, gun owners would have to send in a spent case after every box of 50 rounds! Including the criminals -- like that's going to happen:rolleyes:.

Cost to implement this disaster? Incredibly high.
Benefit to society. Microscopically low to the point of being indistinguishable from zero.

I am thinking that the whole excercise of making it seem like each gun's brass imprint is "on file" to be used as future evidence is worrisome to a lot of people contemplating a crime with a gun.

It will be interesting to see if the future holds any cases solved with brass records. It seems like for this to be effective the dealer would be responsible for sending in the brass and registered owner info at the time of a sale.

I'd like to shove it up some politician's backside, but haven't as yet found one that would stand still long enough...Rodfac

I chuck it after I do a little VooDoo chant n dance to put a hijinx on all the antigunners that made that mandatory in whatever the he*l commy states it's for.

NY and MD

It appears that neither place has ever actually solved a crime using the cases they have been collecting for a while now.

Your tax dollars at work.
