Speer Short Barrel....

Gimmick or good?
In looking for a good carry round for my new KAHR CM9 I found the Speer Short Barrel 124 GR. +P. Is it really different than the regular 124 gr. +P, or is it the same thing with a velocity measured from a shorter barrel.
Anybody have experience with this ammo? And even better, this ammo in a KAHR CM9

Not the 9mm, but the .38 135g GDHP +P is designed to expand at lower velocities. That might be the case with the 9mm to. Maybe a faster burning powder also, not to mention low or no flash powder.

From the test I've seen online and read about, there is nothing about them that is gimmicky. I have a few boxes of .9mm and a few .38's that I've been hoarding for a while. They would be great for your Kahr and if they are available to you, take advantage.

I think what I had were Speer Gold dot short barrel loads for my .40. The opening in the hollow point was larger than standard jhp and they had consistant expansion. They will clog up and not expand it they travel through say heavy clothing or wood before they reach the target. Just my .02

Speer has a great line up of bullets. Nothing but great results with the ones I've used. No gimmick, great product. IMO.

Maybe gimmick isn't the right word. What I am wondering is if they actually engineer the short barrel with faster powder to achieve maximum velocity out of a shorter barrel, or is it just the same as regular 124gr. gold Dot, but with velocities listed as 70 fps slower out of the 3 1/2" barrel vs the 4" used for the standard Gold dot +P ammo. Doesn't really matter, either way I know it's good ammo, and one I'll be testing in my KAHR, and possibly other 9's.
