speer lawman ammo

anybody use this ammo? its supposed to be practice fmj that replicates the ballistic performance of gold dots.

it was the only .40 ammo on the shelf at the range, so i picked up 2 boxes of 180gr for my beretta cx4 storm, and xd40sc.

my xd was all over the place, ive shot lots of gold dot, and its usually pretty accurate.

my cx4 was even worse, actualy key-holing some rounds. the only time it has ever done that was when i tried 200gr bullets thru it.

i shot a mag of hornady HST thru both guns, dead on to aim, and good groups.

i brought 1/2 a box of the speer home and pulled them. i weighed each component, no big differences from round to round.

why would this ammo be so inacurate?

Did you check the bullet diameters?

Try replacing the bullet with a Gold Dot of the same weight and see if it shoots better?

I don't know. That's odd.

Well, I certainly doubt that .0005 is going to make any difference at all. My only guess would be that the velocity is so low that the bullets are not reliably stabilizing, but I would think that the load would have to be so pitiful that you could certainly tell from the noise and recoil. Damned if I know man.

I would contact Speer though. If they're like the other manufacturers they'll send you a call tag for what's left and then send you some replacement ammo.

I dunno... I used it some before I started reloading and it always performed well for me... Looks like you probably got a bad batch... Call Speer.
