Any one have the vitals for 9mm, Speer Gold Dot 124 grain, +P's out of a 3/12" bb (velociity, ft. lbs., etc)? How do they compare to Remington Golden Sabers, 124 grain, +P's? Thanks, Sam
If you are talking about 9x19 self defense ammo I think you will be far safer with Corbon 115gr JHP +P ammo:
- Is more powerful than the others mentioned
- Has higher velocity and therefore greater shock and potential for expansion
- Has nearly zero flash
Shawn Dodson has been kind enough to test many rounds from real guns. The 124gr Gold Dot from a 3.5" Glock performed very well, penetrating and expanding through cloth and into bare gelatin as well.
Most of the tests I have seen (there are many of that round) show it expanding well and penetrating perfectly through cloth and not. Bare gelatin is usually in the mid-teens (inches of penetration) and clothed gelating in the upper mid-teens of penetration, with full expansion of course.
I chronographed Speer Gold Dot +P 9mm ammo in my Witness Polycarbonate Compact, (3.66" BBL) - 1125FPS average. It might spread from 1050 to 1200 in a 5-shout group.
From what I've read the Golden Sabers are a bit more reliable in expanding through clothes. But the Civilian versions (of the Sabers) have some (though not serious) Jacket separation issues.
