Speer Gold Dot 9mm 124gr +P ... chrono?!

Anyone out there chrono Speer's Gold Dot 9mm 124gr +P out of a 4" bbl?

I've got factory specs on Winchester White Box 9mm 115gr and CCI Blazer 9mm 115gr, but would like to know how this +P hot stuff stacks up.

From my CZ75 PCR (3.9" barrel), six shots, I got:

1220 FPS
1246
1264
1224
1226
1230

Average: 1,235 FPS

This is with the 124 gr Gold Dot +P 9mm that I purchased at gun shows for $8 - $10 per box of 50. I have seen some boxes of this ammo marked "Reclassified" as "not for law enforcement contract" or something like that. I'm not sure what this means, but I've heard that it may be out of spec in some way - possibly something minor like the nickel plating on the cases being off, or maybe some more significant component or manufacturing problem. It might also have nothing to do with the quality of the ammo. The boxes I have were not marked this way, but I'm suspicious because of the low price. Nevertheless, it has all shot fine through my pistols, and I haven't seen any physical or performance flaws of any kind with it. I bought around 10 or 12 boxes all together. I wish I'd bought more when it was $8 a box.

Out of my Glocks:

G26---1214 fps

G19---1256 fps

G17---1286 fps

g34---1336 fps

all are averages of 10 shots through a Chrony.

What could / would account for the Glock 19 differences (1188 fps vs 1256)? For reference, CCI / Speer tags their 115gr Blazer @ 1145 fps at muzzle out of a 4" bbl.

First, I don't a chronograph. However, if my pistol only gets an increase of 43 fps (1188-1154), is it even worth it?! On the other hand, if my pistol got an 111 fps (1256-1145) increase or approximately 10%, is this more in line with what one should expect with +P ammo?

Thanks in advance.

REAL WORLD -- REAL GUNS

What if YOUR pistol gets 1344fps?

ONLY WAY to know is test YOUR gun. Sorry truth..........

Out of an HS2000 (4" barrel) with the Speer reclassified 124+P, I got 1200 fps very consistantly; accurate stuff, also.

My questions remain ...

What would / could account for the G19 differences mentioned here?

If your +P CCW ammo (more expensive) only rated 43 fps quicker than your standard target ammo (less expensive), would you be disappointed or is this acceptable?

Hello. As Weshoot2 stated, there can be a pretty good variation from barrel to barrel even in the same make gun.

As to your question, were I only getting 40 ft/sec or so, then I probably wouldn't go for the +P.

Best.

Speer claims the Gold Dot 124 grain +P is rated at 1220 fps.

The standard velocity Gold Dot 124 grain is rated at 1150 fps.

Both are from 4" barrels.

Every firearm will vary.

In addition, the 124 GDHP is reportedly an efficient bullet - -

- - -and will expand well at velocities down around 1100 fps. It is a good shape, as well, and I haven't heard of ANY name brand pistol that doesn't feed it reliably. I've shot it in Browning HP, Kahr P9, Glock 19, and Kel Tec P11. And been on the range while it was being shot in several others.

I was buying my own Federal Hydra-Shok when my sheriff's office began issuing Gold Dot, and I am quite comfortable with it.

Best,
Johnny

Probably chugging at something over 1,400 fps from my 6" Glock 17L.
Wonder if that would change bullet performance enough that even the bonded GD might tend towards fragmentation?
