Speer # 14......AA1680 44 mag data.

I've got a few pounds of AA1680 that I purchased for 300 Whisper that I'd like to use up and I understand there is data for AA1680 and .44 Mag in the Speer # 14 manual......I've got more commonly used (and probably better suited) powders for .44 Mag. like H110 and 2400 but I'd like to use up some of the AA1680.

Can someone give me the Speer data for .44 Mag. with 240 gr. JHP's / JSP's using AA1680 ?......min., max. fps etc.

I'll be shooting a stainless 5.5" barrel Ruger Redhawk.

Thank you.

Yeah. It's too slow. 5744 is the slowest one in the Accurate line that made the load data in their manual. QuickLOAD thinks 25.8 grains will give you the same peak pressure as 24 grains of 296/H110 does. This is basically a full case under the bullet. However, as compared to 296/H110, despite the peak pressure match, you will blow about 40% out of the barrel unburned as the 240 grain bullet dwell is so short, and you will lose about 7% off velocity and 14% off muzzle energy as compared to 296/H110.

Because of the rapid pressure drop and incomplete projected burn, loading this powder down is probably asking for trouble with squibbed-out loads leaving bullets stuck in the bore so the next round meets enough resistance to build enough pressure to do some damage. That may well be one reason they didn't include this powder in the Accurate load data, not even with bullets up to 320 grains. Speer must have felt their experience was better, but I wouldn't drop below the 270 grain bullet weight they suggest, nor go to something softer like a cast bullet with it.

Thank you both for taking the time to reply......it looks like I'll have to find another use for the AA1680 or start shooting a lot more 300 Whisper.
