For those of you that shoot this round out of your short barrel 9mms, what do you think?

Frank

Out of a "short" barrel, I'd recommend a max of 115 grains. Hornady makes a nice 90 gr 9mm round... those things will MOVE. Their speed helps create lots of energy when they are expanding. The accuracy was no worse with the 90 gr than the other 115, 124 and 147grs that were tested BTW.

If you have a high quality gun, look at Cor-Bon 90gr and 115gr ammo. Both 90grs should be capable of at LEAST 1400 fps out of a normal length barrel... so a barrel less than 3inches should get you around 1300+ FPS.

I just shot some out of my G26 this past weekend. The accuracy in my gun was OK, but not as good as Golden Sabers. I have the little guy loaded with them now. If need be, I would not hesitate to use them on a BG.

9mm +P Gold Dot? The best stuff out there. 1220 fps, 410 ft-lb. muzzle energy. Penetrates and expands well. Ask the FBI what happened when they shot a BG with 115 gr. bullets in Miami FL.... They sadly suffered human loss, and IMMEDIATELY switched to bigger and heavier bullets.

New York PD carries it, and they are the biggest department out there. They didn't get it on low bid either, they got the stuff for the performance aspects.

This cartridge is loaded with flash suppressed powder, has a bonded jacket bullet, nickel plated cases, and is loaded inside SAAMI pressure recommendations. Not everyone can claim that.

My 9mm is full of the stuff, so is the .45.

Best Regards and Safe Shooting,

Slim

Slim: The 9mm used in the FBI shooting was the Winchester Silvertip. The current production +P+ 115 gr 9mm have much more energy than the Silvertip.

faiello5,Speer's 124gr.+p gd is an excellent load,as is proload's & georgia arms versions of the +p golddot. The FBI incident has been beaten to death, there are failures in every caliber. That being said,I do prefer the 124gr.9mm in the form of a +p golden sabre or golddot.Good shootin'...long shot!

The best way to find out is too put it to the test. Check out my recent post in this forum on a possible inexpensive option for getting ordinance gelatin for terminal ballistics testing of handgun ammo:

I know, this is a shameless plug... But I really think the more of us testing our ammo this way, the better information we'll have to share with each other.
