Speedloaders, HKS or ?

I've been shooting with some IDPA-type folk and using my S&W 686+, reloading with HKS speedloaders. How do other speedloaders compare (Safariland?). I'm only interested in equipment I would regularly carry.

Thanks in advance for your suggestions and experience.

i prefer the Safariland loaders as you only have to get the rounds in the hole and push the loader to release them. no knobs to turn.

Tracker,

Safariland does not make speed loaders for the 686+, just HKS and a company that puts out the SL Variant.

The SL Variant runs about $29!!! That comes down to nearly $180 for the six I usually carry in competition.

I have used the HKS and find them very cranky. Very frequently they refuse to drop a round so I end up with 6 rounds and an indexing issue.

After experience with a 627 with moonclips, I've decided to have the 686+ converted for moonclips. The conversion costs $85 and the clips are less than $3.00 each. They are very slick.

The person who will be doing the conversion, Bob Miles, is held in high regarded by members of the International Confederation of Revolver Enthusiasts (ICORE) and one of three suppliers to S&W. He is in Gardena, CA at 310-324-1858.

I like the SL Variant, but they are pricey. Dillon Precision is the only place I could find them in Phoenix. Plus they don't fit in the Safariland comp holder. :(
