How about some info on some of the different types or brands of speedloaders you guys are useing in IDPA? Which ones you like the best and why you like them? And maybe some info on what type of holders are good. Thanks guys

HKS and others.

Seems that HKS seems to be the most widely available brand. Bianchi and Uncle Mikes also make good examples.
There are others out there, but these seem to be the big 'uns.

Safariland Comp III and Jetloader (separate brands but operating similarly with spring load to throw the cartridges into the chambers) are the fastest and are secure enough for competition.

SL Variant is good but hard to find and more expensive.
HKS twist knob is slow, the old Dade is insecure.
Safariland Comp I or II is OK, especially if you want to compete with something you can conceal.

Speedloader carrier design is in a state of flux as the makers work to meet the new IDPA requirements for coverage. My local Kydex bender has a style that suits.

and Blade Tech has apparently caught up, too.

Flap pouches are slow, the only thing worth considering is one or another version of the Split Six concealment rig if you wish to be very "tactical."

Back when I was shooting a revolver in PPC competition the vast majority of the competitors were using Safariland Comp II speedloaders, there were a few using the Comp III but I never talked to any of the users to see how they liked them. I don't know about now, but back then I never saw anybody use HK loaders in competition, as previously mentioned the HK's are too slow.

In PPC we had a belt slide that held 3 Safariland speedloaders, and Safariland also offers a spring clip that fits on a belt to hold speedloaders, good for concealment use. I used the belt slide and a couple of the spring clips in case I dropped a speedloading during a match, I would have another at hand and not have to pick it up. Not sure what is IDPA approved.

Whatever you do stay away from those rubber loaders that have the ring on the top and require you to bend the loader to release the cartridges. Half the time a cartridge or two will fall out before the loader gets to the gun and the release is not at all fast. I threw mine in the trash.

Caution re G56.

IDPA is not PPC.
The triple open top speedloader carriers and spring clips common in PPC are not allowed in IDPA.

Wow.

Wow, I must be old :D

I really prefer the HKS loaders, and I have seen several guys locally using them. Then again, we are more recreational than competitive.
That being said, for a highly competitive shooter, the Safariland loaders would be a much better choice. They are faster, seem to be simpler, and are much more durable.

I apologize for overlooking them at first. If you are a very active competitive shooter they are more than likely the way to go.

I like HKS for carry (they can rattle about in purse or pocket forever without shedding rounds) and would probably use them in IDPA to avoid being seen as too "Game-ey". In IPSC, I'd be all about Safariland...
