SPECIFIC revolver vs. 1911 query

Anyone on here actually have a real target revolver like the old Awful&Awful M25 ?

I would like to know how the revolver .45 compares to MOST 1911 autos, both stock and tuned.

A lot of money goes into getting bushings and lugs all fitted up and just curious how it all compares to just having a good old fixed barrel that is pointed at the thing being shot at.

I have a S&W Model 25 and find it to be very accurate particularly with metal jacketed bullets. If you watn to avoid the hassle of trying to set up a 1911, go with the Model 25.

My 625-4, with its 5" barrel, is as accurate as any 1911-pattern I've owned. It is very well-made and well-finished, and every time I hold it I curse that stupid "agreement" for preventing me from buying a matching .45 Mountain Gun...

Not only do I have a 625, but I've actually used it in Bullseye matches. I think it's just as accurate as an accurized 1911-style pistol.

I own two and have shot a number of others. All have equaled or exceeded the accuracy of most tuned 1911s. I believe that the reason 1955 Targets and other match revolvers are no longer used in 2700 competition has more to do with the difficulty in rapid fire ( 5 in 10 at 25) than with any inherent lack of accuracy.

Lavan,

I've got 625s and 1911s. 3 of each.

For accuracy, there isn't a nickel's worth of difference in mine. Maybe a very slight edge to the revolvers.

Biggest difference for me is not having to pick up brass with the revolvers.

The most accurate handguns I own are *&* "N" frame revolvers with five inch, full underlug, barrels.
