Special day at the range.

Took four 38 Special revolvers out today. Guns were a 4" Colt Official Police from 1968, a 4" S&W Model 10-7 from around 1979, a 2" Model 64-2 from 1979, and a 4" 38/44 Heavy Duty that shipped in 1960 (likely made in 1956).

Load was a 158 lead roundnose at about 900 FPS to replicate the standard service load of the 1950s (now they load the 158 lead to 730 and try to claim the velocity hasn't been reduced over the years).

I usually shoot a little to the left with fixed sight revolvers.

The M10:

The M64: (The shift to left is clearly seen here)

The 38/44: (Yeah, I don't know how that one got out into the 6 ring)

The results were pretty consistent and any of the revolvers would do.

Nice revolvers, there.
There's an easy solution for fixing your shooting to the left.
Solution 1 - Just as you are about to pull the trigger, have someone turn you a few degrees to the right.
Solution 2 - move the targets about six inches to the left.
Glad to be of help. :)

Beautiful revolvers!

There is only one conclusion that can be drawn from your targets . . . Smiths shoot better than Colts! :D:roll eyes:

Looks like you had a very enjoyable day! :)

As the saying goes, any day at the range is a good day -- especially with some classic revolvers.

Interesting. I have a almost 100 years old colt police positive in .38 colt new police. I also shoot a bit to the left. It is a bit out of range. The barrel is on the left to the throat. I wonder whether it has anything to do with the poi. I will fix it one of these days.
