Speaking of TZ-99s, what about the Golan...

Okay all you purveyors of inexpensive "clone" pistols, oddball pistols, unusual pistols, hard to find pistols, etc., what can you tell me about Golan pistols from Isreal? I handled a .40s&w version in a local shop today and, if I didn't know better, I'd swear it's a virtual knock-off of the TZ-99/CZ-99 (SIG P226 copies).

The rear cocking serrations on the slide are larger and less numerous, but the rest of the pistol is a dead ringer. Same ambidextrous decocker/slide release, same ambidextrous mag release, same extra curve at the bottom of the trigger guard, same understated thumb indents at the top of the grip, same three-dot sights with HUGE dots, similar trigger pull (although better than my TZ).

Machining, fit, and finish are all first rate. No rough edges or tooling marks to be found.

Now, before someone whacks me over the head for looking at a SIG P226-knockoff instead of a real SIG , I already do have a P226 in .40s&w. :D

Just curious, as the $325 price tag doesn't seem too bad.

Thanks, and take care all. Marko

As a follow-up, today I took my TZ99 to the shop selling the Golan 40. I could only find two differences. The cocking serations on the TZ are finer and more numerous, and the barrel on the TZ is perhaps a half of an inch longer (The Golan's barrel appears more SIG 229 in size). Other than that, the pisols are virtually identical, right down to the shape and number of serrations on the frontstrap and on the front of the trigger guard.
The grips appear identical and interchangeable, as do the sights and the mags. The TZ 15rd 9mm mags locked in flush and held the slide back.

The only other difference is that the Golan's trigger pull was slightly better, as the TZ's trigger stacks a bit before releasing.

If anyone has any further info on the Golan, I would appreciate it. Thanks a lot.

Take care. Marko
