This is a Vetterli my son converted to centerfire. My wrists are completely shot now, so my son does everything in the SP armoury these days.

This beautiful rifle came to me in a trade for a PS 1,000 yard Diopter.









This is the original rimfire saddle pin next to a prototype centerfire conversion he made.

This is the prototype finished product made of Teflon. We determined that anything metal was prone to wear and breakage with repeated use. This little gem will last as long as the rifle...... more or less. ;)

This is a RCBS decapping pin we converted to the firing pin.



He cut down, modified and fire formed 8mm Lebel brass to use in this .41 Swiss. It required a custom mold and the powder, being what it is, took so little of the case volume that he stuffs Dacron filler in on top of the powder before bullet seating.

At 100 yards it does a cool 3.25" 5 round group from a rest.
 
Interesting. Never heard of them...or the conversions (natch...)

300-400 grain, .43 cal boolits- now, that'll make a hole :eek:

Short range hunting?
 
That lovely tangent sight is graduated out to 1200 meters, and replicates the bullet trajectory. Nice old-fashioned design.

Should be fine for deer or hogs !
 
I used to have a Vetterli. When my parents bought their first home, it was found in the attic!. I played with it often when I was young, and found there was a spare firing pin wrapped in paper in the Buttstock compartment.
Sold it about ten years ago.
I have a box of old Remington-UMC .41 Swiss blanks collecting dust.
