Spartan or NEF

Hello, This is my first post. I need some help. I haven't bought a shotgun in quite some time. My trusty ole Long Tom is pretty old and I am looking for something else. I am partial to single-shot shotguns. I have decided to get a 28 gauge in either the Spartan or the NEF is one better than the other or are they pretty close to being the same? Also, can anyone tell me why 36 inch barrels never became popular? I love my Stevens Long Tom 12 gauge.

I would suggest that you get a Nef single shot in 20 gauge. You can then get a caliber conversion if you wish for the 28 gauge, but the 20 is much cheaper to shoot. You can then also shoot slugs and buckshot. I believe 36 inch barrels neever became popular because most of the powder is burned by about 26 inches and much longer than about 28 gets a little bulky and clumsy for trap/skeet shooting, IMHO.

Big fan of the NEF here, they make a great gun. I've got a turkey model 12 ga. and its a great shooter. Its very light, patterns very well, and for its weight its awful gentle on recoil.

If you are going to be looking at swapping the barrels around, you may want to get a rifled barrel first. NEF will put shotgun or rifle barrels onto a rifle reciever, but only shotgun barrels onto a shotgun reciever.

Good luck
Ben
