SP101 SA/DA to DAO

No one I'm aware of sells just a hammer. Aside from Gemini, I understand that Ruger will do the work as well... perhaps for less than Gemini. Worth giving them a call.

Cheers,
C

I may give Gemini a shout. I wouldn't mind a parts kit from them. I just hate having somebody do work I'm more than capable of doing. I'd probably do a spring kit while I have it apart.

Thanks again C!

I don't know about a Gemini spring kit, but you might want to try bobbing your hammer... it ain't that hard. Wolff sells a complete "shooters pak" spring kit for $10.

I don't have some of the tooling I'd like if I wanted to do an actual bobbing of the hammer. The thought has crossed my mind to "shrink" the hammer per say and I don't have toolign to put the knurling back on what would be left of the hammer.

I'll be doing some "geeking out" and seeing what I can find on the subject for sure.

If you're cutting it flush to DAO it... why would you want to knurl it?
You can do a "grit" finish pretty easy... no special tools or talent required.

I guess I should have shed some light. I'm really uncertain on exactly what I want. I was hoping for some drop in parts and if I wanted to tinker, keep the other stuff on a shelf and switch out if needed. However, I may keep it SA/DA and just do an abreviated hammer per say. When I put the title on the post I was assuming I could find drop in parts, I was wrong. At that rate shrink the hammer and move it closer to the frame. I'd want a milling machine to but a nice knurled finish if I did choose to do so.

Just thinking of options.

I think realistically after some research and the real reason for the fire arm is a CCW so DAO is the way to fly. Removing the detent for the SA ability will be in order as well as bobbing the hammer. I'll do some looking to see what's involved.

Thanks again

It's funny really... in your research you will find lots of people that want to get rid of their DAO and convert it to DA/SA. Maybe a swap is in order. :D

I have found that haha. What's also funny is I can't find a decent priced used SP101 anywhere. I just got this one in SA/DA for something I consider to be a good deal on a "used gun" that was never fired. Considerably cheaper than "nice used guns" but it happens to be in SA/DA. I'll take it an tinker with it any day.

I have both DAO and DA/SA versions of both S&Ws and Ruger .357s.

Both have their uses but of CCW is the main thing then I take the advice of such as Bill Jordan and Bryce.

That is your gun should have no sharp corners. Smooth as a bar of soap.

And that means DAO.

I've been searching for parts but may end up bobbing the stock hammer. I'm thinking a set of Badger grips and a Big Dot sight up front with a spring kit and some clean up work on the indards will be in order.

Thanks again
