SP101 Review video and question.

I just posted my little review of my SP101. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HOgU4OTI3cI&feature=channel

I'd like to do some more gun reviews on youtube. I posted one of my P95 and I've gotten about 3,000 views in the few months it's been up. I'm just curious what kind of information or setup do you guys like to see in video reviews of guns. Should I include video of the gun firing, go more in depth as to specifications, include more about available accessories..etc? or do you guys think the simple 4-5 minute rundown is better? Also does anyone else here do video reviews and if so please share the links, I'd love to see some more.

I tend to watch and read several reviews of any product that I consider buying, whether it is a pair of running shoes, a refrigerator or gun. If it costs more than a few bucks, I want to know what other owners have to say about it before I plop down my hard earned cash. The information is worth getting even if all of it isn't objective.

A good review should uncover information that most people can't discern from the manufacturer's published information. To answer your question, I think the most valuable gun review information relates to durability, shootability, feel, accessories and anything else that you think is important. Tell why you bought the gun, your planned usage, how it fits into your armed strategy, etc. Take the gun down and show how it is made, how easy is it to clean, disassemble and maintain? To do a good review, you need to have owned the gun long enough to be very familiar with it so you can answer non-obvious questions that viewers might want to ask. Range shots can be helpful for certain guns.

I have wanted a 3" SP101 for a long time. Several times I have talked myself out of buying one because I can buy a similarly sized 9mm that carries 15 rounds or more and you showed that in your video. I still want a 3" SP101 but I don't think I need one. The SP101 is still a relatively heavy gun for only five rounds.

I have a very early SP101, stamped 125 grain on the barrel. These guns had shorter cylinders and could only accept a 357 magnum cartridge up 125 grain, nothing larger. I love it...well my wife now loves it. I really miss it more than anything.

Anyway, as far as videos. Just make 2 or 3 part videos. Title them appropriately:
1 - Overview and first impressions.
2 - Cleaning, disassembly, etc.
3 - At the Range, Accessories, etc.
4 - Buying an SP101 used, what to look for. How to test lockup, cylinder alignment, etc.

Things like that. That way the video doesn't drone on for someone who is not interested in a particular topic.

Ruger SP 101 357 Caliber

I've got one. Friday the week before last, I was cleaning it and the Transfer Bar fell out. I must have over did it on the trigger pressure putting it back in. The the Pawl Plunger and Pawl Plunger/Cylinder Latch Spring took off to parts unknown when the Pawl fell out.

I called Ruger and explained my problem and was told that it was a common thing. OK, I said. Send me two of each. She said that they were closed for inventory but she could get them out the next week. I asked the price. She said nothing. Thanks.

Today the Post Man delivered them. I took a 2 Gal Plastic Freezer Bag, cut a slot in the side so I could get both hand in. I put the parts and the Trigger Assembly in the bag and had at it. Loads of fun but no lost springs either.

I got it back in one piece and it works.

I don't watch a lot of reviews, yet when I do I want accurate information presented in a professional fashion, in a 4-5 minuet time frame. Ie. Hickok 45 presents accurate information, shooting tips, and an unbiased opinion but for me most of his videos run way to long.

I bought mine new bout 4 years ago, obviously it has a longer cylinder, it will take 200g Corbon HCFP, pretty tight though.
