SP101 deburr?

As you saw I was impressed with my new Ruger Alaskan. I picked up an SP101 in .357mag this morning. I did notice that there are a lot of sharp edges on it, particularly around the trigger, trigger guard, hammer, and rear of the frame. Does anyone know of there is someone that specializes in doing 'carry mods' to these guns, the way that people do custom work to glocks with stippling and whatnot.

Basically, I'd like to have the sharp edges softened up and maybe bead blast the whole thing for a soft matte finish. Looking at probably adding the rosewood Badger 'boot' grip to the gun as well.

I have the 3" and must have gotten lucky, because it really is void of burrs. However, if I were customizing it for a carry piece, I'd be looking to Gemini Customs. I bought the boot grip from Badger and love it! Changes the angle a bit though from factory, but it doesn't snag on your shirt like the Ruger factory grips did! Good luck!

wow, they have some good looking guns.... but I don't think I'm wanting to go that fancy.

Maybe I'll just hit it with some 600 grit and then have it bead blasted... I can probably make that work.

Thanks for the heads up... that Alaskan carry model they have on there makes me drool.

Check with Dietrich Gunsmithy in Otis, ME, www.dietrichgunsmithy.com, they've done exactly that kind of work for me on a couple of occasions. Their work is top notch and their prices and turn around times are reasonable. Tell them Scott sent you.

Give your SP to Nelson Ford at 32d Street and Shea in Phoenix (Google The Gunsmith Nelson Ford).

He's been working on my guns for years, specializes in Smiths but also works on Rugers. His action job always includes rounding the trigger, and I am sure he's willing to round whatever edges you want.

Plus he has beadblasted a couple of my Smiths and they have turned out nice. Highly recommended, he does great work and stands behind it.

Awesome. I'll check him out! Will save a bunch of money not having to ship the gun, too.
