Sp 101

Well, I traded by M60 for an SP101 today. I was on the fence originally about which to get after side by side comparison. The Ruger has lousy/gritty trigger that is gonna need time, then work. The whole trigger area is incedibly sharp. What I love about this thing is that it is easy to totally take apart and put back together. I did notice on the innards alot of chards of cut metal throught the mechanism. I would really like to find a pair of true boot grips for this thing, I am suprised no one makes them. The Butler Creek grip doesn't come close to what I have in mind.

Wolff springs, lots of dry fire. Many threads have brought out the fact that Rugers quality control seems to be lacking these days. I had to send back two SP's before I got a good one. It's definately a keeper.

SK, what prompted your return? I don't think I need to, but it definately is going to the smith soon.

Well, lets see... the cylinder on the first one wouldn't always close - crane might have been bent, I'm not sure.
The second one had one chamber hole that was out-of-round, brass was difficult to eject. Must have built up some pretty high pressure forcing the bullet through the restriction.
The dealer I got them from returned them to Davidsons and I had a new one by the next weekend.
I added the Wolff springs, a Hogue monogrip and a Trijicon front sight. The trigger is smoothing up nicely, really enjoy shooting it. The 3" barrel is the shortest I've owned, took some practice to get good with it.

I had a SP101 for about five years, I gave it to my dad about two years ago. The SP101 was the gun that I learn how to shoot double-action with. The first gun I ever bought was a Ruger Security-Six in 1981. The trigger on the Security-Six was very sloppy, with three different noticeable transitions throughout the entire double-action pull. With the SP101 I found the trigger to be very smooth from start to finish on the double-action pull. I did buy the SP101 about seven years ago and as such I can not vouch for Rugers present quality control. I did like my SP101 and have been thinking about buying another one. As for a rubber grip I also liked the Hogue Monogrip.
