SP 101 Questions

I have a Ruger SP 101 2 1/4" .357 and would like to get a ported barrel or something else that would reduce the recoil for quicker follow up shots. Any one know any good products, or smiths that would do this sort of thing?

Jack Weigand comes to mind with his "Tame the Beast" pkg. I don't know if he is accepting work at the moment. There is also Magnaport in Michigan and All Custom Firearms in Arizona and probably a bunch of others.

Hmmm. As short as the barrel is and with the addition of porting I'm wondering if the velocity of the round would fall into the .38Spec or .38Spec+P range. If so, why not forgo porting and just shoot .38Spec or .38Spec+P?

Most data shows, Including Jack Weigands, Magna Port and others etc, that porting done correctly in a snubbie will only reduce velocity by an average of 5%. This drop in velocity is
NOT near 38 +P spec. at all. The 357 with full house loads are MUCH stronger than any +P from the same short tube. Usually, twice the FPE in similar bullet weights. Porting can reduce muzzle flip alot and from my own shooting at night/dusk doesnt increase muzzle flash over a non ported snubbie.
Shoot well

I had the SP10 carry package done to my SP101 by All Custom Firearms and am very pleased...The package is so named because the porting cuts off the "1" in the SP101 logo...

I had a local "reputable" smith do some work to my SP101. He did a trigger/action job, shortened, smoothed and polished the trigger and hammer, chamfered the cyl. holes and forcing cone and installed a Trijicon night front sight that I acquired a little while ago. I carry with a Buttler Creek Boot grip and also have a CTC Laser for it...its a good option for a snubbie CCW IMO. The Trijicon is for the Buttler Creek grip. The only thing I would consider is porting as my next step....I may have to get it done. Shoot well
