SP 101 Question

I looked at a new 2" SS .357 today. The ejector rod appears to contain a bunch of parts to operate the front latch and as a result ir appears to much too flimsly to survive. It had a good. 10 " end play. The gun was new and unfired. Also there were a lot of sharp edges and the side plate was a lot smaller than the opening. Are they all like this?

I have several thousand rounds through my 101, absolutely no problems. Have heard of quality control issues lately, but the old stuff like I have is utterly reliable. I trust it with my life.

I have never had a problem with Ruger strength or reliability, but this ejector rod looked like it would break off the first time it was pushed the least bit sideways. This was on a 2".
I might have to look for an older one

Ive got the 2" 357 SP and the ejector rod stressed me out alot at first also...its not a solid rod like the J frame. It doesnt turn with the cylinder..and despite how flimsey it feels, its very strong.
The sharp edges arent anything Ive noticed..but my gun was "smoothed out" for CCW. I really would consider this to be a great/if not the best, snubbie available. IMO, of course.
Shoot well

that's what i was going to ask...what side plate? every sp101 i've seen doesn't have a side plate.

the ejector rod will be looser then you'd expect if compared to a smith or colt. it is because it does not turn with the cylinder and operates the ejector star through cam/levers

Correct. No side plate. It must have been the fit between the trigger group and the frame. It definitely looked unfinished. I will have to look again!

Ruger makes a fine revolver,You should be ok with a SP-101.

I said Ruger makes a nice REVOLVER,Don't confuse this with there auto's(junk).
