Anyone ever purchase on of these? What kind of condition are they in? Is SOG pretty good with their descriptions as far as condition goes. They are running a special this week and I thought about buying one.

absolutely dependable gun will shoot high pressure loads to i believe 50,000 cup.it will also chamber 38 special which is a pretty nice round for target shooting also i believe it was guns and ammo that called it the all time best home protection gun.

Thanx for the reply. I am familiar with the GP 100 (had a blued 6" barrel version) but want to know how good the guns are coming from sog (condition, etc.)

I've heard that they are Canadian police trade-ins. So, like all police trade ins you can expect they've been carried a lot, shot a little, been maintained so-so. Since they're stainless the high carry time and iffy maintenance shouldn't be as big a factor as on a blued gun.

I thought SOG only sold directly to dealer FFLs. Am I mistaken?

From my experience with SOG,in general they tend to overrate condition. If you order "very good",expect "good".Aim Surplus on the other hand has been extremely honest in their grading. You can probably clean up a stainless GP 100 to look really nice.Get out that stainless safe metal polish,a couple of soft rags and get to work.

Not sure exactly how one would wear out a stainless GP-100 so I wouldn't sweat the condition too much. I don't like those bobbed hammers though.

These guns should sell with a holster and speedloader pouch for about $250 retail. That means that they'll be about $200 if you're ordering one and you'll make up the difference in shipping and transfer fees. I wouldn't pay over $300 for one.

Mine was very rough externally, but hadn't been shot a lot. I cleaned it up and did some cursory polishing and it looks great.

The guns are DAO (hammer can not be cocked) and they can not be easily converted to DA, so keep that in mind. They are also fixed sighted guns which is a bit unusual in a GP100.

I bought one of these.

The external condition was excellent. It cleaned up with some flitz to look great. Lots of holster wear points, but no scratches or stains. The holster is worn but functional and it holds the gun very securely. The speedloader was a Safariland unit that was new.

They are well used. These Canadians apparently practiced with them! Mine has barely acceptable lock up but it is shootable and I am just picky about the lock up.

I am going to send it back to Ruger to have it brought back to like new.

What is unusual about them is they have a half underlug. This gives that pistol about perfect balance.

I have shot mine with full house Elmer Keith class loads and it is easy on the hands. This was a pleasant surprise.

I would buy another without hesitation. They are well known for being built well and I am sure Ruger will bring it back to like new for little or nothing. I also specifically wanted a bobbed hammer and a DAO gun so this is exactly what I was looking for.

In any case, the 4 inch .357's in the Ruger GP or the Smith L frames are about the perfect size for this cartridge.
