Source for silver bullets?

I know you can buy the 'whole' thing in silver, how about just the bullet itself? I'd like to make a dummy bullet using a regular 45 case and a silver FMJ bullet.

Buy some silver and cast 'em. Kind of pricey at $16.16 per ounce though.
"...buy the 'whole' thing..." Isn't a bullet either. Stupid people at private mints and refineries.

If it's just appearance you are after you might look for nickel plated bullets.

I somehow ended up with some in 22 cal. I loaded them up in 223 cases and labeled them Werewolf bullets.

You can see them on the left side of this photo.

That would be fine if you don't try to shoot them. Silver shrinks badly when cooling off after being cast so you would have to have an oversized mold to start with.

It's also very hard compared to lead so the mold would have to be sized correctly so not to over pressure your chamber.

Silver melts at 1763 deg so you now have to have a special furnace just to melt it. You could use a cutting torch to melt it easily but you would have to use a cast iron mold and good luck with it not sticking to the mold. If you did get it to drop it would be all wrinkled up.

I can see why you want to find a source for them

I already checked into it a while back. Maybe the OP did to. Not easy to do. I never found a source that were shootable bullets.

I cast some bullets from silver solder before they drop out 214 gn from a 230 gn mold and are harder than Supermans head.

Low temperature "silver solder" only has 4% silver.

A jeweler could cast you a silver bullet. They would have to hand make a pattern that is 5% larger than actual size. You lose that much when lost wax casting.

Just have some FMJ bullets silver plated. It's cheaper.

Why not take the easy route and just use one of the new fangled metallic chrome spray paints.
They do a really good job.
Might not work well on were wolves, though.

I'm all for getting a home plating kit. You could always buy silver clay and work with that. Look it. Up online. You coup use a standard bullet mold to form your initial slug.don't shoot them.

casting your own is an almost impossible feat. I have a bunch of silver ingots and thought I could AT LEAST just melt them down into a puddle, nope. I knew off the bat that the high temp would destroy my molds, but I don't even have a pot that can handle the heat. a cast iron pot would suffice, and you would need a steady source of heat, like acetylene torch or MAPP. as for a mold, not sure, you would need a nice silicone mold I suppose, or sand. lots of work.

if you have a lathe, and just melt some down into a decent size piece, machining would be fun.

or, just buy one of the types above, and hand-cut the top off, then grind the sides down to fit
