Source for full-power 10mm ammo?

Can anyone recommend a full-power 10mm round. From what I've read on this board, Cor-Bon's 10mm is underloaded in order to make their .400 look better and Federal's HydraShok seems a little on the weak side -- closer to their .40S&W ammo.

I don't want a bullet that's in the same class as a .40S&W, if I want that, I'll shoot my .40 caliber guns. I bought a 10mm so that I could take full advantage of what it has to offer.

Any suggestions? Anything that'll duplicate the results of the no-longer made black talons?

By the way, if anyone is interested and has not figured this out yet, I'm mostly interested in using it against 4-legged creatures -- otherwise, I more than satisfied with a .40S&W or even a 9mm.

I think that most of Cor-Bon defensive ammo is moderately loaded, not just the 10. Pluses are moderate recoil, very little night vision loss when shooting in low light, and excellent performance.

Other brands of defensive ammo appear to also be of moderate pressure.

Most of the .357mag ammo sold over the counter is down loaded to performance level of the old high performance .38spec loads. Most manufacturers are hesitant to sell max pressure ammunition. Two many things can go wrong and the lawyers are lurking with suits at the ready.

Sam...follow me, I remember this road.

From what I have read and understand, the Winchester 175 gr. STHP is the hottest round currently available for the 10MM. I have never had the opportunity to try them.

Your other choice is to reload. I'm not saying brew up some outlandish load as some would suggest, just go with the maximum loads listed in current manuals working up to them gradually in your gun.

The 10MM is a very easy round to reload for.

I like the Hornady 200 gr. XTPHP and either HS-7 or AA #9. You pick your charge weights I don't like listing my loads for liability reasons even though they are by the book.

I favor Norma or Starline brass but Federal will also work well.

Another nice load for general use and practice is a 180 gr. Winchester FMJ bullet and a max load using HS-7.

FUD,

How about 10mm 155 gr Quik-Shok at the following muzzle figures 1400 fps, 674 ftlbs out of a 5" bbl. Mileage may very.

Oh, and hey… can’t a discount be applied?

The Black Tallons are still available. Not cheep but there none the less. IIRC those ar 200 gr loads. Most of the current PDW loads are <200gr.

Proload, www.proload.com

135gr Nossler at 1440
155gr GoldDot at 1350
180gr GoldDot at 1200
published velocities

Since you are looking at 4-leggers (gators perhaps???????). I would probably go with reloads; either a GoldDot, XTP, or Jacketed Flat Point/Soft Point, loaded in new brass as hot as I could stand.

I tested the 180 proload and the 175 Silvertip in my Glock 29. I settled on the 175 as I thought the Proload was a little too hot in so small a gun (I may re-evaluate this as I get comfortable at the new power level). The PL was also more flashy. In the near future I plan on testing some 155 gr loads on the idea that the 155 might be a more efficient weight for the short barrel 10.

Fud,

Just checked www.ammoman.com for you. Right now they have 10mm in CCI Blazer FMJ and in Federal American Eagle LRN. As you know, ammoman has wonderful customer service, very fast delivery (I receive orders in one or two days), and all charges (including shipping) are included in their posted price.

Best regards.
