Sorry but I have to ask this - so much FAIL from Smith & Wesson (M&P lineup)

Sorry but I have to ask this - so much FAIL from Smith & Wesson (M&P lineup).

I'm confused and frustrated by the M&P options. I like these pistols a lot generally, and carry a Shield daily.

My confusion and frustration relates to the tall sight and threaded barrel options (I was looking at 9x19 lineup, but I think the same can generally be said for all chambering choices):

1. First up, note that the tall sight models offered coincide with those that are meant to be used with a reflex type sight ==> This is GOOD (so you can co-witness). Except no threaded barrel offered on these models.

2. On the lone threaded barrel model, it does NOT have tall sights? WTH? You already make the tall sights, S&W - why not simply stick them on this model, or at least put an extra set in the box? Fail.

3. Finally, on that same lone threaded barrel model, you have to buy / pay for TWO barrels - you can't buy it for a normal-ish price with just one barrel (the threaded one). You must pay the much-higher price for both barrels. Why on earth would anyone want the regular barrel if one wants and likes the threaded barrel? Most holsters are open-toed, are they not? I don't want to pay extra for the plain barrel that is a waste of time and will just sit in a dresser drawer. Even if you have a product # that sells them both, why not offer a 2nd product with JUST the threaded barrel? That'd would make the most sense.

So, #2 and #3 above taken together is a fail of epic proportions. This is REAL simple, S&W - we want it ALL in one package! Give us a model / product with ALL of the following in one package: (1) long slide, (2) threaded barrel, (3) tall sights, so we can co-witness AND see over the suppressor, and (4) ability to accept a reflex.

FN does it (at least with .45 acp) - why is this so hard for S&W to figure out? Ugh.

Sorry: failure to get the specific configuration of barrel and sight that you want in this case doesn't justify the use of "Epic Fail" to me.

Hyperbole much?

I thought your thread was going to be about a gun that went 'KaBoom' in your hand while using factory ammo, setting off rounds in the magazine and costing you multiple fingers.

THAT might qualify as an 'epic' level.

What you describe has no relation to The Odyssey or any other example of 'epic'.

Buy the regular model you want, throw on a lone wolf threaded barrel, sell the one that came with your gun, and call it a day.

Why would I want to waste money on a barrel I don't use?

As I pointed out (#3 above).
Then get the one you want, why are you complaining?
Frankly if you're getting all that you would be getting a competition barrel anyway.

Also note the differences in prices between a FN and S&W.

I want a gun just like in most movies where you keep on shooting without the need for reload.

"EPIC FAILURE" ON ALL GUN MANUFACTURES!

Yg

Manufacturers can't make every possible combination of options and be competitive on prices. Companies that are profitable figure out what most people want and make those guns. Some offer custom shops where customers can custom order exactly what they want and pay a premium for it.

This is one of those cases where there isn't enough demand for them to make what you want. This is why there is an aftermarket.

This may be a DUMB question, but why complain to us? Why not write to S&W and tell them what you want? If it is just a matter of installing a different (but interchangeable) barrel, they might accommodate you at little or no additional cost. Note: Write, do not phone or e-mail. Letters still get more attention.

UD-well, you stated your position and others stated theirs.

Guess everyone figured you've been around long enough they don't have to sugar coat anything. That could be considered a good thing.

Good luck.

It sounds like there are TONS of combinations of options possible with only minimal additional expense and effort. How spoiled we have become these days... Only a few years ago a pistol off the shelf that meets the OP's desired specs would be practically non-existent. That being said, I can still understand the frustration of not being able to find that perfect combo of features when all the parts are already in production.

I'm sure the OP's complaints will get them exactly what they want... aside from the fact they're telling a tale of woe to everyone except those who might actually be able to help (S&W).

This would seem to define: Epic Fail.
