Son's first deer (warning dead deer photo)

My 11 year old son took his first deer with a muzzle loader yesterday. T/C Renegade with open sights and shooting the traditional 50 cal patched ball. The season has been kind to us thus far and the freezer is filling up fast.

Have you ever seen seen a happier boy. I was proud of him. He hit a little high and to the right and as a result he had to track him "Indian style" from blood drop to blood drop. I let him do it all except dragging it out. That just about killed me, we hunt in a VERY hilly areas.

I dont hunt at all, but I am not against it. That is one VERY happy boy. Im sure he'll be anxious at the crack of dawn every season from here on out.

Any idea of how far your son tracked?

Good Job: our kids grow up so fast, this will be one of the deciding moments in his life..time with his father, trust, and the first thrill of hunting..

Yep, he is one proud, happy kid...

As a parent, when you see that kind of look on your childs face it kind of answers all the questions in the universe that really matter.

Very good! I hope you've told him the ancient custom that the hunter gets first choice of tenderloins, while the guy who helps drag out the deer gets second choice. ;)

Outfreakinstanding ! ! !
Congrats to you and your son.
I was taliking with my kids last night at dinner, my son looks at his sister and says.."Best time of my Life?...Hunting with Dad and the Guys".
Justabout cried.
Great Job Guys ! ! !

I am 16 now and I was your son's age when I shot my first one also.
That is one day I will remember forever.
I have got 3 more since then, but there is really something special about your first one. Make sure he gets some more. :)

Very nice and with a black powder also :)
I took my first deer at age eleven also, it still causes me to smile 30 plus years and who knows how many deer later.

AWESOME!!!
That day will be approaching for me in about seven more years. I can only imagine how fun it will be to hear a shot from his deerstand and go to him while he's still jittery from killing the deer. Nice thread.
