Son's First Buck

My son killed his first buck late yesterday afternoon. A small racked 8 point that weighed around 150lb. He dropped him in his tracks with his 30-06 at around 50 yards. He made the old man's trailing job real easy.;)
He had seen the deer once before and really wanted another chance to get him. He was so excited he re-lived the shot the whole 45 minutes drive to the processor. He has held off of shooting does and smaller bucks this year to get a decent buck. I have been amazed and proud a 15 year old could pass on as many deer as he has.

That is just awesome

Kudos to the both of you. To your son for showing much more maturity than most would expect and to you for instilling it in him.

It's a great feeling isn't it dad? Kids often surprise us. Nice buck and good choices. That's what it's really about. Isn't it?

Congratulate your son on a good hunt.

Thanks guys.
He didn't really get interested in hunting until last year. I never pushed him to hunt with me whe he was younger. He killed his first deer, a nice doe, last year and has been hooked every since. He saw a few nice bucks last year, but things didn't work out to get one. I think seeing those bucks last year gave him the desire to pass on everything else. I didn't expect for him to hold out for so long though. The season opened nearly 2 months ago where we hunt and he has seen many deer in that time. Hopefully he will cull a few does for the freezer now.:)
