Something useful to put on threads of Savage MKII FV-SR

I have a Savage MKII FV-SR that has 1/2x28 threads. I wish I had the money and patience to go through the process of getting a suppressor for it or one of those econo-cans but I don't at the moment but I do want to put the threads to use until I can. I want to put something on it that will actually do something rather than just look cool. For example one of these: http://www.midwayusa.com/product/524840/dpms-muzzle-brake-levang-linear-1-2-28-thread-ar-15-steel-matte I've read that its supposed to direct the report out to the front and away from the shooter. Would this actually work on a .22? What else would anyone recommend attaching to the threads (other than a suppressor) that might serve an actual purpose besides looking mean?

I'd like to know more about these too. For $30 dollars it may be worth the risk. Read all the negative reviews and even google reviews for the product just to be safe.

If you are looking for noise reduction in a .22, try the sub sonic ammo that is out there. It doesn't do much for my GSG-522 but for a bolt action it might?

I haven't used that muzzle brake but I do have other brakes on a couple rifles.

Besides reducing recoil they reduce muzzle jump allowing you to spot your hits.

The one's I had work.

If you're looking for something to add to the threads I think a muzzle brake would fit the bill.

You do have to use ear protection, but you shouldn't shoot without them anyway.
