Something to reload for

I have 3 win mod 88s . They are my sons and i deer rifles. I have a load that works fantastic in them 1 inch or smaller groups at 100yrds.

I dont want to beat on my old antique deer rifles by pounding rounds down them when there really not a bench rest gun . So i was thinking of picking up a rem 788 in 223 or 243 . My da9d had one years ago in 308 that we cast bullets for. That gun could out shoot anything. And from what i understand they are sought after for their strong action and accuracy by many reloaders.

Price wise 500$ seems like the going rate wich is reasonable if they shoot as well as i remember. What other rifles would fall into a similiar catogory (reasoably priced and noted for accuracy)

What kind of shooting is the rifle going to be for? Deer like your 88's?

I have a savage 10t in 6.5 creedmoor that I have less than 600 in, and even with my meager shooting abilities is less than 1"at 100. When distances lengthen, groups open up to just over a MOA at 600(last match I went to, second time shooting it I was getting about 6-8 inch groups(if I remember right, my score was in the high 80's low 90's) not counting brass or dies, my cost per round is about 47 cents, using hornady bullets, but that can double if I use some of the exotic solid CNC machined bullets such as cutting edge.

I, personally am highly interested in one of the few cartridges nosler has come up with, such as the 28,30, and 33 nosler

If you are going target shooting then nhyrum has it nailed.

THe 10T is a Cabella only Savage, you may find used ones on Gunbrokerra and such.

The good part is Savage has almost a full time on going rebate program.

$75 off. Luck out and Cabell matches that. Puts it down in the $400 range as I recall.

Decent stock, good barrel (heavy) rail, acu trigger (can be adjusted down to 1.5 lbs and I like it though others sneer at it, I am getting occasionally 1/4 inch groups and more 3/8, 1/2 and 5/8 with my Savages with that trigger.

The Cabella only Savage 12FV is also good and even less though you don't get any mounts, cheap stock (which I would replace with a Boyds.)

As near as I can tell the OEM barrel is probably good for sub 3/4 MOA. I have gotten some 3/8 out of mine.

308 and 6.5 Creed in the 10T

12FV wider with 204, 223, 243, 22-250 and 308.

While not for all, with $150 tools you can replace barrels when they wear out.

Target and ground hog hunting. I doubt that i will enter any compititions . But you never know.

Thanks for all the sugestions. Savage 10T ,12FV l'll check them out. I always liked savage.
