Someone is lying: Canik TP9SFs are listed as Cerakote over phosphate and nitride

I have never bothered to look at a Canik. No interest.

A lot of firearm receivers have been made of 8620 alloy steel.I'll use it for an example.It will heat treat to hard enough for guns. ts been used in US military firearms.
There might be a confusion over the word "nitride" A nitride can be a surface finish like the gold colored Titanium Nitride drills and end mills.Very thin and very hard.

There is another form of Nitriding which (forgive me metallurgists) uses a gas or salt bath to surface harden or case harden the steel.This case can easily be .005 or .010 thick.This process would give a hard,slick ,wear resistant case with a tough,ductile core.

It would then make perfect sense to phosphate (Parkerize) the surface for "tooth" that the CerraCoat would adhere.

IMO.the process can make sense with no one lying.It sounds like a way to make a good,functional,old school steel part.
