Some Turkey Pictures

The Alabama season started out pretty tuff, but things started coming around about two weeks ago. I haven't been able to hunt as much as I wanted due to school, but I manage to get in about 3-4 mornings a week.

Heres how I have done so far.

Twenty pound bird with inch spurs and a ten inch beard. He gobbled around 5:15 and then came in to a strutting decoy(homemade) and a hen. He hung at 80 yards and finally broke after some loud purring on my part and came right to the decoy. Flopped at 35 yards.

This Bird Went 23.6 pounds and had 1.25 inch spurs, but the beard was lacking at only 6 inches. This morning it was raining, the wind was blowing, and it was pretty chilly. We snuck through a swamp and cut this bird off at the edge of a field. Flopped at 54 steps.

One weekend left in the season, and finals are coming up. O well!

beard length

Beard length can be odd. I killed one 2 years ago and 70% of the beard had never grown past 6" while the rest was from 6" to 10.25".
Killed one this year that was only 8.5" and wavy but with 1"spurs and weighed 21# another 2 year old bird from the same area was 9.5"and straight.

Good show!

I know your feeling.I got you today for the first time. Many deer but my first turkey.Good shot.

Dirty Harry, you can hunt turkey w/ a rifle in Tx, except those counties w/ an Eastern Turkey season...It is legal to shoot the Rio's w/ a rifle. I shot one during the general rifle season (deer) 2 years ago w/ a 300 win mag...It's all I had. 43 yds, right in the base of the neck. Needless to say, I took his head off. Had a 10" beard. And no, I don't advocate the 300 win as the optimum turkey gun...I can already hear it comming....
