Some help, please??

Radio station 94.5fm reported the following as fact:

* a recent poll shows that:
- more than 50% (I think they said 54%) of Americans are in favour of tighter gun control
- 30% of Americans want a total ban on firearms ownership

I can't believe this, and I obviously want to challenge the station.

Can anyone tell me where these figures might have come from -- even if they have been distorted?? I hate to go into a gunfight unarmed.

Bruce...check out my post Polls.Polls.Polls...in the Legal forum.

These polls are being taken in areas where the pollsters know they will get the answer they want. If you want a left wing result, take the poll in NY City. Polls are funded by groups who want a specific result, and they are paying the money to do the poll. Pollsters are a business like anything else, they will get the result their client wants.

Like someone here has stated before...follow the money.

K80Geoff has it right. The pollsters skew the poll any way the customer wants the numbers to fall. Do not trust statistics offered by gummint or the media.

You can trust statistics offered by Lyman, SAAMI, or other competent sources. Generally they are physical measurements. But opinion polls, no way, no how! ;)
