I bought this Zastava PAP a couple of months ago from a coworker that decided he didn't want it any more. $500 with 640 rounds of ammo seemed like a fair deal, even though I felt the rifle was as ugly as a mud fence.
What you do get with one of these is a rifle that is not a parts gun. They are made in the same factory that made weapons for the Yugoslavian government with all matching numbers. Plus the Yugo AK's have a larger front trunnion that was designed for the RPK squad machine gun and are made with a thicker (1.5mm vs 1mm) receiver. They are extremely well made and worthy of the effort to make them look better.
First things first, I dug out some old Chinese wood that I have had laying around for several years and modified it to fit.
Better, much better. I ordered a set of Ironwood stocks for it in American Walnut and a Tapco fire control group to keep it 922r compliant. I had the mag well machined out to accept a double stack mag and added a Yugo M70 bolt so the magazines would function.
Also I fabricated a filler piece to fit in the lower rear of the receiver.
Thought I'd try the tacticool look with a holographic site.
After looking at it for a while I have decided that the whole tacticool look is retarded on an AK (or any other rifle for that matter) and modified a Bulgarian receiver cover to fit. You have to remove about 3/4" from the front of the cover and machine the reliefs for the beefier front trunnion and the rear push pin.
Threaded the muzzle for a brake
Next up is to modify a RPK rear sight (windage adjustable) to fit and I'm done.
