Soliciting P11 suggestions

Just took delivery on my new Kel-Tec P11.

I'm fixed for an OWB holster; it fits my Don Hume JIT Slide very nicely.

I'm ordering one of Kel-Tec's belt clips for IWB for now.

I'm ordering a 12-round flush-fit magazine.

I haven't fired a round through it yet, but the trigger doesn't seem to be as bad as I've been led to believe.

It is intended to replace my Kahr PM9 for EDC (due solely to the 5 round extra capacity, I'm quite pleased with the PM9 otherwise).

I would appreciate any other suggestions to help make my experience/transition a delight :).

Thanks,

Will

I had a P11, and it was solid and reliable and accurate. But, if I didn't shoot it regularly, the long, heavy trigger would cause me to throw off with my first few shots. (I found this out when I used mine in an IDPA match. After the first scenario, I did very well with it.)

If you plan to carry it regularly, and you shoot other guns, get yourself some snap caps so you can practice the trigger and not be caught by surprise as I was. (I sold mine for that reason -- I shoot other guns more frequently [my error, I realized] -- and that horrid first IDPA scenario could've been me facing a bad guy.)

Folks who shoot them a lot don't have my problem.

A P-11 with the PF9 trigger system would be just about ideal -- and Kel-Tec says that's in the works. But it has been for a long time. They've probably got other fish to fry in the meantime.

Don't do a lot of dry firing without a snapcap.
You can use sand paper to remove the mould marks on the frame.
A lot of owners have reshaped the trigger with a knife or a heat gun. There is a after market trigger that you can install.

A sharp penknife will remove the mould marks.
Stay away from trigger shoes.
If your trigger has overtravel, Google "White's trigger stop." This is a great addition to most P11s.

Psst...

You can lighten the trigger pull by using a bent nail...

Google it.

I also used the factory belt clip on mine. Word of advice, use blue loctite on the screws. They tend to work loose after a while.

I also carry the P-11 when a small pistol is needed and have had one for several years now (can't say exactly how long with out looking in the record book). Also use the 12 round magazines but had to add the magazine finger extender to them to make it fit my big hand. The 15 round mag. I tried would fix that as well but they are to much extra for comfortable pocket carry for me but would work for belt carry. Replaced the recoil guide rod with a steel one and I do use a trigger shoe, so far without any problems. I do fine a need to practice with it often to stay use to the long DA pull but I doubt that I will ever find it a fun gun to just go punch paper with.
You'll just have to shoot it a bit and see how well you like then decide if you need to make any changes.

Thanks for the good replies and advice. I would be pleased to hear from anyone with experience with the couple of trigger replacements and whether they were worth the time, trouble, and expense. I will get a chance to fire a few rounds through mine this weekend.

Best, and thank you all

Will
