NRA 2000 Board of Directors Election — Not a Casual Affair
by Robert K. Brown

It is time, once again, for me to recommend individuals who are running for the National Rifle Association's Board of Directors. This is an election that should not be taken lightly as the NRA is the largest and most effective gun-rights organization in the nation, and is measurably among the Top 10 most powerful political lobbying groups in the country. Consequently, the election of NRA Board members is NOT a casual affair. We need informed gun-rights activists who are responsible and dedicated.

And, by the way, if you don't belong to the NRA, you cheap son-of-a-bitch, you deserve to lose your guns!

This year you can vote for up to 25 individuals, but no more. I am recommending only l9, as I do not know the other individuals recommended by the nominating committee. I would like to put a word in for two individuals, running for the Board for the first time, whom I highly respect.

The first is Don Causey, who publishes the Hunting Report, and the second is Grover Norquist, who is Executive Director of Americans for Tax Reform. Grover raised the eyebrows of the effete elite in D.C. when a photo of him at my hunting camp appeared in the Washington Post.

Meanwhile, Neal Knox and his myrmidons continue to stridently attack NRA leadership under the guise of self-righteousness. As far as I'm concerned, Knox, et al., are simply whining in frustration because they got their butts kicked a couple of years ago when they tried to take over the NRA in their failed power play. Yet the ongoing arrogance of some of his supporters is incomprehensible. For instance, Sally Drews Brodbeck and her husband recently sued the NRA, thus demonstrating their contempt for the NRA and all we stand for. And now she wants your vote to be re-elected to the Board! Equally disgusting is another one of Knox's cronies, Weldon Clark, who on 24 November l998, filed a complaint with the Federal Election Commission, demanding an " ... independent investigation into the business affairs of the National Rifle Association with emphasis on federal elections ... " With turkeys like these, we don't need to worry about the Charlie Schumers and Hillarys of the world.

Don't vote for these boobs!

Don't try to tell me that Robert K. Brown is anything but dedicated to the RKBA. He is no moderate, compromising squish. Please pay attention to what he has to say.

Neal Knox all the way!

SOF mag is downhill big time from the old days. They are just another advertiser of the gun de jour and cowboy action shooting (barf!). They are now heavily into kissing LE *ss after a poorly written article on the jack booted thuggedness of the "hut, hut, hut" crowd in LE.

If La Pierre wins. The NRA will tone down the rhetoric and begin comprimising (capitulating) at an even grander pace.

It's disgusting that their current best brainstorms come up with increased enforcement of unconstitutional firearm laws.

NRA Life: Yeah, Robert Brown is dedicated to the RKBA. And he's dedicated to the proposition that the best way to defend it is to run the NRA like an army of conscripts, or a totalitarian state. Absolute control of information. Ruthless suppression of dissent. Run from the top down, with no questioning orders, just mindless obedience. "Ours is not to question why, ours is but to do and die." If he could get away with it, Brown would probably try to have Knox executed under the Uniform Code of Military Justice!

And LaPierre already has such a huge majority on the board, that it's been reduced to a rubber stamp. There's no GOOD reason to purge the board of the last few people who won't lick Wayne's boots. But I can think of plenty of BAD reasons, like preventing any posiblity of independent oversight.

I keep coming back to one point: Knox alleges financial corruption at the top of the NRA. Demands an audit. The leadership refuses the audit. Refuses even to acknowlege that any such allegation is being made! Instead, they lauched an all out effort to purge Knox and his allies from a board they already dominate. I take this as prima facia evidence that Knox is right, and LaPierre and his toadies are on the take.

And look at Brown's remarks: WHY did Brodbeck and her husband sue the NRA? Isn't it worth mentioning? They sued because her husband got physically attacked by the leaderships' goon squad at the Philly meeting, because he tried to record what was actually happening there! They took him down with a sleeper hold, just because they didn't want US to see how they conduct the meetings, and violate NRA rules to cut the meeting short, and avoid having to act on membership initiated matters.

Well heck, I wish I hadn't even made this post, not because I agree with you guys, but because the Second Amendment is just too important and all of the political infighting within the NRA and on the internet forums, just gives great aid and comfort to the enemy. The Second Amendment is in jeopardy like never before and it just isn't worth it.

Sometimes, I think Knox and his bunch are the antigunners best friends. The way they bash the NRA, you would think that they were on the HCI payroll.

"I take this as prima facia evidence that Knox is right, and LaPierre and his toadies are on the take."

Brett, even Sarah Bradey wouldn't make a statement like that. This is the kind of thing that I am talking about. On the more strident forums around the 'net, NRA bashing is all too fashionable and does no good at all. Some how, if you aren't anti-NRA you are lees than a patriot. We need to remember, that what many of the so called "no compromisers" are doing, is "greasing the wheels of the governments inevitable and total collapse." They have no desire to right this sinking ship we are on. They want a total collapse of society as we know it, so that they can rebuild this country from the ground up. In too many cases, these are the kind of people that Knox has in his corner. One should wonder what the real motive of these NRA bashers is!

I'm getting a bit off topic here, but the more radical element of the pro-Second Amendment movement is already on a seek and destroy mission. They have no interest in being polite and civil in their discussions with those who disagree with us. They get in people's faces with a "touch my gun and I'll kill you attitude." This is very counterproductive to say the least. It scares the hell out of the people in the middle of the political spectrum, the very people that we desperately need on our side this November.

We should take Ronald Reagan's 11th commandment of not saying ill of another Republican and apply it to ourselves and the NRA.

Joe

they bash the NRA and leadership because they deserve it. some are happy with compromise and giving away freedom. others like knox aren't. go ahead and support giving our freedom away, just don't expect others to jump on the band wagon. it's the compromise crowd that has given us all recent firearms restrictions. knowing what sarah and bill had for dinner last night is not my idea of fighting for my right to keep and bear arms.

6forsure,

I agree that The NRA could use some improving, but for the most part it is the only game in town. If we could get the NRA's membership up to 6 million members, not only would we not have to compromise, but we could regain a lot of lost ground. Bashing the NRA and telling people not to join does no good at all.

If you say you are serious about stopping the anti-gun agenda but you are not a member of the NRA, you are cheating all us gunowners. If you are a gunowner and not a member of the NRA you are helping the other side. I know all the arguments over the NRA - and I am aware of all the other groups out there who claim to be "more relevant." While it is true there are more aggressive groups; and while it is true the NRA isn't perfect; it is also true there is no group around with the Congressional clout of the NRA.

I do not care to argue the fine details with anyone. I am not saying everything the NRA does is right, correct or even to my liking. I am saying that there is no other group with the numbers. And that folks, makes a difference. "Your" particular gun-rights group may be the most "correct" on every point. But if you can't get an audience it doesn't make any difference. What we are dealing with is perceptions, not reality. In the political world perception IS reality.

We need the NRA to be 30 million strong. If we had just 6 to 10 million members Congress would not stick us in the eye any time they felt like it. And with more members who think alike, the leadership of the NRA will be more responsive to the members.

So if you are serious about stopping the anti-gun agenda, quit fighting with them by opposing the NRA and get on board. It don't cost any more than a couple cases of beer and it is a whole lot more helpful. While you are at, if you consider yourself pro-gun, sign up some family members and friends.

And...sign them up to GOA, JPFO, SAF as well as local and state groups. You are investing in the future.

Joe

I am the NRA ;). And I'm p*ssed at them (current leadership) too. I'll stand on my head for another year, and I'll be able to vote. I've owned guns for 5 years, been a NRA member for 4. Got some relatives to join too (5 so far), some that don't even own guns.
