In addition to selling three of my BP revolvers, I also sold an SKS see through scope mount. Everything I sold amounted to just enough to cover what I bought.
I still have my matched pair of two Uberti cattleman .45 Colts and my matched pair of two nickel and gold plated, fluted cylinders 1860's plus my stainless 1858 Remy.
I sold these two, my rosewood grips ASM on the top and Pietta on the bottom.....
and sold this one too....
Was just enough to cover my costs for getting this ever so slightly used Para Ordnance stainless, hi capacity .45 with seven magazines, hardly fired, with hard plastic carry case, manual, extra front sight fiber optic rod, and the tools. Basically like new.
This was the 1911 I always wanted. A stainless hi capacity one with match barrel and a super sweet and light pulling trigger. Now I'm thinking of selling my other 1911, single stack (7 rd mag), Auto Ordnance that has its factory barrel plus a 16 inch long extra barrel with buttstock and grooved mainspring housing to attach the buttstock to. Don't really need it now that I have this Para, but kinda hate to get rid of it because it's such a sweet shooter. Don't really need to sell it because the three BP revolvers plus the scope mount covered my costs on the Para. Gonna take my time making that decision. But I do have to ask myself if I really need it now that I have the Para Ordnance.
But don't throw tomatoes at me fellas or call me blasphemous for divesting myself of three of my BP revolvers to get that Para, I still kept my other three favorite BP revolvers and my two Uberti peacemakers.
I could have afforded it without selling any other of my guns. But I couldn't justify my buying another (relatively) high dollar gun unless I sold some other guns to avoid paying out of pocket. Worked out pretty good this time and I wasn't out of pocket anything. Plus it thinned my collection a bit which I am trying to do to get down to more of what I actually shoot and need rather than just what I want. I figure two 1860 Colts and one 1858 Remy is all I really want to keep for black powder revolvers. The short barrel 1851 Marshal was nice, but I still prefer my long barrel 1860's over it.
My next plan is to buy two of those stainless and fluted 1851 cylinders from Cabelas to put on in place of my two fluted and gold plated cylinders on my pair of 1860 .44's. Those 1851 stainless fluted cylinder from Cabelas fit right onto my 1860's. I know because I tried the stainless, fluted cylinder from the 1851 Marshal (before I sold it) on my 1860's and it fit perfectly. I found out the hard way that the gold plating gets blown off the cylinder. Plus it will make both my nickel plated 1860's look either totally nickel plated, or stainless looking like this one of my two nickel 1860's with that stainless 1851 Marshal (that I sold), fluted cylinder on it....
A real nice look I think. Stainless 1860's are few and expensive. And I haven't seen any all nickel plated fluted cylinder ones with white grips either.
So I'll set my fluted and gold plated cylinders aside and swap them out for those stainless fluted cylinders for shooting. Funny, I never had any problems with the nickel plating on the barrel from shooting, just with the gold plated cylinder.
Those stainless fluted cylinders at Cabelas are $69.00 each and I need two of them. So if I do sell my other 1911 pistol/carbine combo, It will more than cover that plus have a whole lot left over to get a whole lot of cartridge cases, smokeless powder, primers, black powder, percussion caps, projectiles and everything I need to stock up on all kinds of ammo wise before the inevitable big craze and gouging on guns and ammo starts as we get closer to the presidential election with everyone being afraid of Obama being re-elected and his inevitable going after our guns if he is, since he would be a lame duck prez and would have nothing to lose going after our guns since he cannot be re-elected to a third term.
Whether he is or not, watch and see, I predict guns and ammo prices will go nuts as we get closer and closer to that election. They will be flying off the shelves like they were the last time just before and just after he was elected. It doesn't matter if he is not elected, just the fear that he might be will drive the buying frenzy and the inevitable gouging on guns and ammo So I'm preparing a little ahead of that craze. Getting the guns and ammo I want now and consolidating my collection down to a smaller more manageable size and more of what I really use and need rather than just a numerous collection for collection sake. Course one rifle and one handgun is all you really "NEED", but you fellas know what I mean.
