Sold my marlin, got a browning 30.06 bolt action

finally sold the 1936 marlin for 500, bought myself a browning 30.06 stainless steel a bolt, what do you all think?

Personally I'd have kept the Marlin but it's whatever floats your goat.

i was going to keep it but being a carbine i decided to let it go, it was a nice gun but i needed something more modern day and bolt action

You'll like the A-Bolt. I've been shooting one since the early/mid 90's and I've never had any issues with mine. Really like the short bolt throw and it's a pretty accurate gun when I do my part with the right ammunition.

To me, where I live and hunt each has it's merits. The Marlin for closer shots, maybe a 4X or 2-7X scope or iron sights. And the Browning, with a 12X scope more or less for 200 to 300 yard shot ballpark.
Just depends where you set up. In my case, the purpose is deer hunting. And I have a number of locations to set up where some are short shots in the woods while others are open field long shots.
In my case I would not select one or the other for reasons I just stated. I have and use and appreciate both.

I have contemplated getting rid of my Winchester 94 a bunch of times to fund the purchase of a rifle I would shoot more. I can never talk myself into it, though. It's just a beat-up, rusty carbine circa 1970 that I would never take hunting, but it's my only lever-gun and it was a gift. When I shoot it every once in a while it reminds me it's still a good rifle and I can hit almost anything with it inside of 200 yards. But, "dang I really want a nice new bolt action, or a better scope for one of my other guns", I always think.

my marlin 1936 30/30 was a solid lever action carbine, i fired about 250 rounds before i traded it off for the browning, much better in my honest opinion with new scientific advancements and engineering also being completely weather proof i love my new investment going to shoot it in a few hours and see how this puppy pings the steel plates

thank you warbird and all who replied i finally got out to shoot today out in the Nevada desert, didn't have time to sight in the scope but it's a solid rifle and i love it! here's a quick video of my browning using Silver ballistic tip 185 grain

I've been tinkering with a Savage 111, 30-06, with a Leupold 3.5x 10x 40 "target tactical", and some handloads. I sighted it in yesterday, 3 inches high at one hundred yds with 150 grn Ballistic Tips, it shot pretty nice but I didn't even come close to the grouping I'm used to, I had too much sugar earlier and it hit me at the range, dang it.. Anyway I love to read threads about bolt action 30-06's.....Have fun shooting that dude.
