Soft Or Snap

I apologize in advance if this topic was discussed before. I am relatively new. I did scroll trough some of the back posts, but couldn't find this topic, so here it is.

With break open shotguns, side by sides and stack barrels, what is the proper way of closing the firearm? Should the gun be closed gently or briskly? I have heard good and bad on both sides of this debate. I was under the impression that if its done too softly it may not lock up properly. The I've heard going soft is easier on the gun.

So, how do you close your shotgun?

They should be snapped shut smartly using one hand on the pistol-grip/wrist and one on the forearm. This is, as you indicate, to make sure the action locks shut completely. :)

NEVER slam one shut by holding the wrist and swinging the barrels upward - this can and will damage the locking mechanism and spring the barrel hinge.
