A S&W .22lr revolver? I saw one yesterday in the S&W catalog, and now I want one. I have a Buckmark, but I just think the revolver is so stinking cool. Are they worth the money - and do you ever see them selling used? Also, I originally wanted a Ruger Bearcat, but seem to like the S&W - does anyone have a preference?

Pictures would be nice too :p (I love pictures).
 
I have a 617 4" - extremely happy with it. I think it's worth the money - if you think .22s should be cheaper than centerfires, it may seem expensive, but if you just look at it as a handgun ($200-$2500), it's not real pricey, at about $525-$550.

I bought the 4" 617 as a companion to a 4" S&W 686, but if you really want to drive tacks, I think you'll like the 6" better - definitely yields tighter groups with the increased sight radius.

They are definitely available used. In addition to the 617, you can look for its predecessor, the model 17 - both are often referred to as "K-22s", for K-frame .22LR.

Mine is a very nice pre-numbered K22 Masterpiece. It was made in 51 and is excellent. My only regret is that I have yet to find a "nice" pre-war K-22 outdoorsman to go with it. Some day!

Mine is also a 17-4 that I'll never part with. I did have a pre 17 that I foolishly sold. You can't go wrong with a M-17.
 
I have a M17-3 and a M18-3. The used market is full of S&W .22lr revolvers.
I also have a M48-3 with is the .22 magnum version if you want a little more power.
 
Totally agree with previous posts on model 17's. I too have a 17-3 (6") and it's always in my range bag - wouldn't part with it. I'm now lookin' for a M34 with a 2" barrell......... :)
 
I have a Model 18 4". I bought it to practice with instead of the similar Model 19. I dont do a lot of that and the .38spc ammo is cheap enough. Reloads also dont translate well. But the .22 revolver has a lot of uses (you can use Colibris in them) and I wouldnt blame anyone at all for wanting it.
