I have a CZ on order and am wondering about bulk ammo selection in 9mm.

Since this is a military side arm from the other side of the "iron curtain", is steel cased russian ammo it's native diet?

ammoman price check:
Federal 124 grain FMJ is $280 a 1000

Federal 115 Grain HP is $340 a 1000

Wolf 115 grain FMJ is $115 a 1000

S&B 115 grain FMJ is $134 a 1000

Since there are rumors of restrictions on military ammo imports again, i would like to lay in a case or two of S&B while it is relatively cheap.

Will this be happy gun range food?
(i am not going to be reloading)

Hello. I have no experience with Wolf ammo, but don't routinely feed my handguns steel cased ammunition. I'm sure others do with no problems, but having seen some extraction problems, I choose not to. I do not care for S&B due to the fact that I have never gotten as tight of groups with it as other "range ammo" that's factory loaded. Were I going to buy bulk 9mm, I'd likely go with the South African PMP 115 gr ball. It does group and costs about the same as the S&B. It averages about 1120 ft/sec, which is a tad light, but will function in a CZ-75 so long as the recoil spring's not been increased to an 18.5lb or stronger. When I shoot this stuff, I put the regular recoil spring back in. I bought 1500 rnds from Cheaper Than Dirt. Best.

dZ,
I suggest you try different varieties of ammo, by that I mean different brands, bullet weights and loadings. Pick the one that is most accurate(within your budget) and go with it. I have found most brands to be satisfactorily accurate in my CZ75B, for salf defence. Try a lighter bullet, 115 Grn for example and go with a light load, I like that configuration because I am sensitive to recoil.

Anand

CZs will chew through whatever you care to feed it. Russian SpecOps use the CZ75 and I suspect they feed theirs Wolf ammo, so you should have trouble. Steel crore ammo is no problem because it's FMJ. If you want to feed it home cooking get the S&B. I myself prefer IMI as QC tends to be very high and prices competitive.

I had (until Saturday) a CZ-75B, and still have a CZ-85 Combat.

They eat almost anything. I regularly use Sellier & Bellot FMJ, but have had good success with Denel, PMP, IMI, and Magtech -- all of which sell for about the same general price.

I generally pay from $110 - $125 a case, delivered.

I`ve used Wolf in my 75B and it works well, it`s a little dirty though. For the small difference in price I think I`d go for the S&B. S&B is even what CZ uses to test fire and sight the 75s in according to my factory test target. You can`t go wrong with that. Marcus

What does Uncle Sam run through the M9 ? One would think we could buy surplus military ammo from our own country relatively cheap. Or at least the manufacturer which is set up to supply such a large volume of fmj could pass on the savings to us lowly citizens.

Had very good results with:

1. Fiocchi (my favorite), hot and accurate

2. GECO, a bit less hot but very accurate

3. PMP, pretty light but very accurate

4. Wolf, just O.K. plinking ammo, hot but
not very accurate

Didn't like UMC ammo - light and not accurate.

Fiocchi and GECO seem to be just a perfect
match for CZ-75B, from my experience.

I found this to work rather well:

At $110/1000 it is a good deal, and brass cased to boot. I found wolf to be the worst s**t I have ever shot. It was the cause of the only FTF I have ever had in my CZ. It actually locked the whole slide up. I have to pull with all my strength to get it apart again. Scared the crap out of me at first.

I'd feed it some good 'ole homebrew mahself. :D

You can feed a CZ75 almost anything and it will work great. The only bullets I have found that mine hates are semi-jacketed soft points and I had few problems with 125 grain lead truncated cone.

The only ammo I have found that my CZ 75B doesn't like is that 3D 115gr LRN junk. This is the only ammo to make my CZ stutter (Two ftf in 50 rnds) and I do not plan on buying anymore. No problems with everything else from Wolf, S&B, Hornady, Fiocchi, PMC, Federal, CCI...
