So, I'm shooting the Gen5 tomorrow...

My local range held a contest, and I was drawn to be what they say will be "the first person to shoot a commercial Gen5. No word yet in what model, it goes down at 8am. I've won some free Glock swag - Range bag, sports bottle, and a few other things.

I'll take tons of pics if I'm allowed and will post them in this thread tomorrow.

What model? Well, I read it's only 17 and 19 so far.

Congrats.
Hope it doesn't have the same feature as the one in Law Abiding Citizen

hotsauce, let's see:

Generation 1: 1982
Generation 2: 1988
Generation 3: 1997
Generation 4: 2010
Generation 5: 2017

So, how is that every year?

It doesn't seem like the gen4 has been out that long.

Still I kinda agree when you look at the "improvements" it seems like it's a lot of little things.. Kinda like the Iphone when is the last time something major was done to it?? OMG larger screens.. OMG.. Iphone 7 removed the headphone jack.. right on apple way to innovate.

I was not allowed to take pics, but let me say that this thing is a shooter!

Lol, kinda limits the appeal of the thread but it is what it is.

I don't see this as "every other year". The reality is it's been a while since the Gen 4. Most of us are just at the point in our lives where we really don't notice it. Glocks and the way people think about them sort of crack me up. It's a brand that constantly gets ragged on for never changing and then when they do change people complain that they do it too much. Can't win it seems.

While I get that in the grand scheme these are minor changes, I'm personally more excited about these changes than I was about the Gen 4. As for "revolutionary" changes, it's not going to happen folks. No company is going to risk alienating all the fans it has now on the possibility of picking up more. In reality I often question how many people would actually buy a Glock if Glock did make the changes they supposedly want. At the end of the day Glock still makes plenty of sales. There are a lot more competitors on the Block, pun intended, but most of those would be tickled pink to have Glock sales figures. If you don't like Glocks there are loads of options on the market these days.

Based on what I've read so far, the changes don't seem to warrant much fanfare. It's like a car model slightly tweaking the bumper between model years. I'm sure it's a great pistol, they always have been.

All I know is I never looked back at Glock after I shot the Walther PPQ M2. :)
