So I'm legal, now which?

I received my carry permit today. Nice way to cheer up after a long hot harsh workday. Now I finally need to hunker down and pick which of mine will be my main carry gun. For the moment I have narrowed it down to my Glock 30 and my Kimber Pro Elite. I may consider my G19 or my G29 at some point in the future after they have proven themselves, but for now it is between the previously mentioned guns. I am equally comfortable with both. My shooting is not any better with one over the other, neither has ever jammed, both have night sights, both have leather ready to go. So the Kimber gives up two rounds of capacity but I believe this is a non-issue. Can anyone think of why I should pick one over the other?

The Glock? Lighter weight, corrosion resistance, and 10 rounds on-tap. The Kimber? Dedicated manual safety, and possibly easier to conceal due to thickness. Since you feel that you shoot BOTH equally well, that is certainly a tough call. But, for myself, I would lean toward the 1911. :)

I don't have any solid suggestion one way or the other.

If the leather is comparable for allowing normal access - i.e., both are the same - say IWB strong side, etc. Then that'd be a wash.

Next I'd look at what my normal daily activity was and probably pick the one that was the most comfortable.

If that's a wash, then I'd probably go with the 1911 purely because that is my personal preference.

Alternatively - if you expect the holsters to be exposed to a lot of humidity (sweat)in the day to day carry - then I might suggest alternating carry to let the leather dry and better retain it's "set". Since the two guns are different in their manual of arms, that suggestion flies in the face of the conventional wisdom that says one gun, one method of carry - always.

Strap one on, and carry it around the house one day, walk around, bend over, get in and out of your car, the normal stuff you have to do every day, then put the other one on and do the same things. The Glock is lighter, the Kimber is thinner. Pick the one that is the most comfortable. It'll be on your waist a lot more than it'll be in your hand.

I just got a G36 and am facing a similar decision with my Ultra Elite/Colt ltwt. officer combo. I used a G19 prior to the Ultra Elite. .45 and the thinner profile won for the UE over the lighter weight G19. Now the G36 is essentially the same size as the G19, only thinner. Love that G19. Haven't got faith built up in the G36 yet, but once it proves itself to me, I have got major problems. Good luck on your decision.

did the test drive suggestion, Kimber got the job for the moment, comfort factor ended up deciding, perhaps other leather would sway it back to the 30

Congratulations on getting your permit!

Now carry the weapon you shoot best. Since we're talking two .45s here, caliber's a wash. The Glock is shorter and probably lighter, but a bit thicker. Concealbility will depend more on holster choice and dress, so that's a wash. The 8 versus 10 round mag is probably a wash, given that you're not likely to have to fire as many as 8 rounds in an encounter.

Power, concealability, capacity, all equal. That leaves placement. Pick the weapon most likely to hit the K-zone in your hands.

Truth is if you pull you gun you probably (hopefully) won't have to fire..........go with the 1911.

Even brain-dead bad guys can recognize it.
