So any P226 Tac Ops users....Questions..

Well I went ahead and picked me one up.

I managed to get a few rounds through it over the weekend to see how she shot. As I expected it was a waste of time, it shot just how I figured it would, spot on.

I even managed to draw first blood with it on a gofer at 15'. He just wasn't fast enough to shove the dirt and get back down the hole before I planted a 124gr cast HP just below his shoulders. Needless to say it had plenty of power for the job.

So if you don't mind, I have a few questions for ya since this is my first jaunt into 9mm territory.

Which factory ammo do you find shoots the best for you? (mostly for target, but if you have/like a good SD ammo mention it)

If your loading your own, are you using any particular commercial bullet that shoot better than others? Are you shooting any cast at all?

Same for powders, which ones do you find work the best with which weights and how clean?

I load for everything but this one is a new one on me. I just never really had a want, desire, or need for a 9mm. I had everything just a touch bigger and, well, bigger is as bigger does. Not stirring up things, just I always liked the larger calibers and have shot them most of my life. The 9mm just never caught on with me or any family I guess due to the 10mm and 45 aura, or all of the revolver calibers we have always had.

SO anyways I put together close to 10 different loads using several powders under several different bullets. The jacketed or plated were both Berry's in the 115 and 124gr HBRN, then some of my own cast of various weights up to around 130'ish grains, both traditional lubed and powder coated. They all shot well over the chrony and into a 3" square at 20yds from the makeshift rest I used. I was pleased that the velocities were on average withing the range I had tried for with each load as well. I got from just over 1000fps up to just over 1200 on the top end with the lighter bullets. I didn't really have time with the rain to get anything really settled to what was most accurate. Hopefully in the next few weekends I will narrow some of it down, but am interested in what others use as well.

Anyway just thought I would toss out a few questions and hopefully get some good idea of what others are finding works good in theirs.

Sorry no one has answered yet. I own a 9mm SIG P226 Tacops, but I do not handload. Honestly, it shoots whatever I put in it...no matter how low the quality is, or how good and hot it is. I shoot crappy Tula all the way to hot Underwood 124gr +P+. Never once has it had a hiccup, ever, in anyway. Period. Phenomenal handgun with huge capacity. I have a Viridian laser/light on mine.

Hey Smokehouse thanks for the input, no need to apologize though.

Maybe I should have titled it differently like what do you shoot in your 9mm or something similar.

I appreciate the input as it at least gives me a reference to work with. I simply find it hard to spend what they want for the so called upper grade ammo and only get 20 rounds. Used to be you got 50 with a handgun, but a bean counter figured it would be more effective to charge more and give less product.

I hope you all fared well with all of the rain and run off up in your area. WE got hammered pretty good down here in H-town but luckily we personally weren't very effected. I missed a day from work, but put it to good use working on some cast bullets I had poured up.

I haven't considered putting anything under it yet, but have been looking into an adjustable rear sight. Might just be me, but I like to be able to adjust things to where I shoot rather than me adjust to where something else shoots. I also like to zero where I want rather than have it set from the factory with whatever ammo they used. I might not like that particular weight, range, or velocity.

Anyway thanks for the reply.

Another very happy Sig TacOps owner here. I don't reload either, but the pistol shoots everything I put in it. It is totally reliable and extremely accurate, just like all of my other Sigs. What sets this one apart, to me, is the four twenty round mags. All are reliable, and one can sling a lot of lead down range in try short order. At last count I had around a hundred pistols, and this one is probably my favorite range toy.

I don't have the Tac Ops but I have the Mk25d navy. I fully intend to reload for it (and other nines), but motivation for doing so is low because it eats anything and everything I feed it. It has never had any failure of any kind. And it shoots crappy ammo like it was match-grade ammo.

I have a West German 226 with a SRT kit installed. I shoot reloads out of it mostly when just punching holes in paper. I also use these same reloads in my four other 9mm's.

I like plated bullets the best and have only used the 115 gr RN ones so far. The bullets have been from Berry's, Everglades, FMP, and Rainer. Not much difference in terms of grouping from any of my guns. I use mixed brass with a COL of 1.130 with either Winchester 231/Hodgdon HP-38 (4.6 grs) or Alliant Bullseye (4.3 grs). These loads shoot pretty clean about like most factory FMJ's of the same weight. Recoil and muzzle flash also seem to duplicated factory loads pretty closely. I could probably move up to a little heavier powder charge and shorten my COL a little to run a little cleaner.

Howdy Mike, glad you have not been directly affected by the floods. We were lucky as well...we've just had to deal with what basically is mud coming out of our faucets. It is finally starting to clear up, though. My wife and I have ridden the motorcycle down River Road hundreds of times, and crossed that bridge in Wimberly just as much. Horrible what has gone on there. I live in Dripping Springs area, so we got torrential downpours, but no real damage.

As I said, the Tacops shoots any and everything I put through it. For the "real" stuff I keep it loaded up and ready with, I had Winchester Ranger T's for a long time, but recently switched to Underwood Ammo's 124gr +P+ that have Gold Dot bullets. They are a little harder to get now, as many folks like what they put out better than the original Speer ammo...so they quit selling them to him. The good thing is that you can buy 50 rounds of their premium ammo for usually around $30 - $35 dollars, which is a great price for the power and quality to get. The caveat, however, is that the shipping can be very expensive. The cure to that is on occasion, Underwood does a $9 flat shipping special, and if you buy over $200 of ammo, then shipping is free...and no tax. Good deal if you watch for it.

My wife has a Crimson Trace grip on her Ruger SP101, and I have the Veridian Green Laser/Light on my SIG Tacops. None of our other handguns have one. The laser really threw me off for awhile, and I didn't think I liked it, until someone filled me in on how to use it. The problem is, most people unintentionally try to "shoot the dot". Sounds weird, but you do. You have to put this out of your mind, place the dot where you want on the target and pull the trigger. I love to practice this by just shooting from my side almost....not even looking down the handgun. Put the dot where you want it and fire. You'll be surprised how easy and simple. Anyway, to each their own, and like I said, it is my only handgun that has the laser.

Enjoy that Tacops, it is one fine and rugged race car!!!

THanks folks, that is some reassuring information. I have about all the powders which one could possibly need to workup some great loads just no clues where to start out.

Worc, I did load up some of both 115 and 124gr Berry's using Bullseye at about the same load you posted. Both shot well as did some powder coated cast I had loaded with the same load.

I will be tweaking things a bit more after I get some rounds through it and get the sights adjusted to hit center instead of grouping to the left. I initially though it might have been me, but I shot my friends and hit dead center of the bull, and with mine hit 3" to the left with everything. He has the sight tool which I hopefully will get tomorrow at work and will go from there.

I have close to 1K of bullets that are about half factory and half handloads to go through. I figure I will find something in amongst those that shoots to my liking. I'll post up when I get something downrange.
