So a guy walks into a gun shop

So today, after taking my wife to work, I decided to visit my favorite local gun shop. He's a different kind of shop, because he does nothing but used or consignment guns. No new guns, almost no doo-dads, no distributors, just a bunch of old guns at decent prices. I love it.

So I walk in, and in the main handgun display, there are 7-8 classic S&W revolvers: A few 15's, a 586, a 19, an M&P, and what I think was a 629 8 3/8" in a presentation case. I, however, had my eyes drawn to the 2 Model 65s, a 4" and a 3". I asked to see the 3", and after a very brief internal debate, I began haggling. He wanted $469 plus tax, he decided to eat the tax for $470 cash. That trigger was butter smooth, and had the original magna grips begging for a set of Tyler T grips. After we agreed on the details, he even brought it back out because he saw my eyes wandering to it over and over while I was shooting the breeze. :D

He flipped the tag, wrote my name on it, and it will be mine when I go in tomorrow after hitting the bank. :-)

Pics/ range report will come up probably tomorrow sometime...

I've got a couple of three inch K-frames (neither one is a Model 65) and really love the way they balance. They are compact and easily carried but still have a sight radius much better than a true snubby. I do have a four inch 65 which I keep loaded in the house. Nice guns. :)

NICE! I keep searching for a gun shop that has a good ol' revolver selection, but as of late... NONE IN MY AREA WHY!?!?!?

This is the only shop I have found with a selection like this.

I love the guy because, as he has told me multiple times, he feels a pang of regret everytime he sells a gun. He is a true gun enthusiast who opened a shop to do what he loves. He keeps bar stools around the place to sit and chit chat, and a rack of movies to borrow and return- everything from WWII documenteries to Boondock Saints...

Shameless Plug: If you live in Southern Indiana or the Louisville, KY area, I encourage you to check this place out: Falls City Firearms in Clarksville, IN.

Nice. Well done. I wish there was some place 'round these parts that matched that description. I'm newish to this town, and the gun prices are much higher than in Dallas.

Look forward to the pics. Drooly-drooly.

Yessir, Jimmy...

Those 3" k-frames are a real nice revolver. I have a 3" Model 13 and like yours, it's smooth and handles SO nicely.

Enjoy!

Don't let wife, son, daughter, friend or other relative shoot that 3" or they will try to talk you out of it. :D I picked up one of the Australian model 10s from Buds gunshop and first trip to the range two guys wanted to buy it from me...

I got one of those, too. I've been thinking of having the square butt ground down to convert to a round butt.

Pics as promised...

It's got a few dings, and a few pits here and there, but overall a great piece.

Now I need to order my T grip. Any suggestions on the color? I'm thinking either a brushed aluminum or the brass color, but I can't decide...

Man, that does sound like one heckuva of a nice, comfy shop.

I could even visit that, it's not far from me. I wouldn't want to, though. :( Can't cash & carry out of state. Arrrrgh.

Range report

Range Report: WOW

I went to the range with about 75 rounds of 38 special and 8 rds of leftover 357s. The gun pointed nicely, and I think when I add the T grips, it will be even better. The 38s were teddy bear soft, and the 357s were easily manageable. I didn't want to stop, I just ran out of ammo. Trigger is nice and smooth, and plesant in both single and double action. It has been promoted rather quickly to my carry rotation, and now I just need a holster for it.

Any holster suggestions? I'm looking probably at an OWB holster. Suffice it to say I posted multiple times in the IWB for fat guys thread, I have no desire to have a hammer poking me in the love handles for any amount of time, and there is no way on God's green earth I am bobbing that hammer (don't even think about suggesting it!). I live in a fairly gun friendly state- Indiana, the only state (I think) that offers a Lifetime License to Carry a Handgun, and OC is fine by me, or concealed under a jacket.

I'm not gonna do kydex. I just can't see putting a classy piece like this inside a piece of plastic. Gotta be leather. I prefer an FBI cant or similar. I prefer thumb break holsters for OWB. I'm not looking to spend more than about $50-$60, as one of the gun shops I visit works with a guy that makes custom leather holsters for about that price, and they look pretty nice.

For my K frame revolvers.... I have a Kramer Leather, with forward FBI tilt in horsehide.

http://kramerleather.com/productDetail.cfm?productID=11&categoryID=24

They're very good holsters...custom molded for each model...( but $ 60 isn't going to get it done )...

I use Kramer for all my holsters....K, L and N frame S&W revolvers...my 1911's .... and my Sig Sauers...( Horsehide is preferred over cowhide, horsehide holds up better and is less abrasive on the gun's finish).

Kramer may still have a line of beef-hide holsters that he sells for less than the horse-hide. The quality is still there, the price tag is less.

Yes, Kramer still makes some cowhide as well...I don't see a lot of them around, but you can order it ...

........but its only about $ 10 cheaper than horsehide...and horsehide is a much better product, in my opinion ( $115 vs $ 125 or so ....)...
