Snubnose question

I’ve seen some very unclear pics of .38 special or .357 snubbies with barrels that seems just a bit longer than the normal 2 inch.

Anyone know what they are?

Would it be worth it to get such a snubby over a normal 2 inch?

Really hard to guess without looking at the picture you saw. Any better description other than barrel length?

But Ruger makes thier SP 101 with a 3 1/4" optional barrel. Or at least they did last I checked...

I have the 3" SP101 and the extra inch adds some weight, making it a little easier to handle with the .357 cartridges and gives a better sight radius. It doesn't really effect the bulkiness of the gun, so it's still easy to conceal.

A few examples:

S&W Model 60's come in 2 1/4" and 3".
S&W Model 66's come in 2 1/2" and have been made in 3"
Ruger Speed Six or Service Six were made in 2 3/4"
S&W Model 27 came in 3 1/2".

All have their virtues.

You can still get a ruger sp101 with the 2.25 barrel on it. Is it next tuesday yet? I get one to mess with then.

Some can also be custom jobs. I ran into one guy at a range who had so much in his revolver for trigger job and custom work that when he wanted a snubby he just had that one shortened down. He picked something longer than 2 inches and under 3 inches from what I recall.

When S&W started making their j-frame 357s they lengthened the bbl from 2" to 2 1/8" to allow a longer ejector rod to push out the longer 357 cases.
