Thought I'd share a couple photos.

Wanted a BRNO #1 for years. Passed on a deluxe model because seller and I were $50 apart on price. Regretted not caving on that one. Two years later I settled for a less fancy model at a great price. I refinished the stock.

Shoots OK.

My first gun was Remington Model 581 purchased for me by my uncle in 1967. Gun was stolen in 1985. Bought another that was the personal rifle of a gun smith and he had modified it extensively. I didn't like the wood so I restocked it myself.

It does all right, too.

Bought a new Ruger 10/22 in 1989. Remains in "as issued" condition. Original stock, barrel, trigger, all as it came from Ruger. All I did was add an older Redfield scope I had laying around.

These are the first two targets shot at 50 yards. Would you modify this rifle?

Very nice work !!!

I routinely do modifications on these fine rifles, especially the older 10/22,s like yours and NO, I would not. The only thing I might do, is replace the bolt stop with a poly buffer. ..... ;)

By the way, very nice work and if you look, you might find the history of BRNO, to be very interesting. .... :)

Be Safe !!!

Ruger 10/22 - Wow.

I've shot a 'target' model 10/22 from about 2010 from a sandbag table rest and it wasn't that accurate! I thought it was pretty good shooting slightly under two inch groups at 50 yards and from my limited experience with other 10/22's still think it was a keeper but nothing like yours.

Great find.

When machines are mass produced a few are awful...lemons. Most are within specs and work fine. And a few come out at the other end of the scale with everything falling into place better than expected. I think my 10/22 may be such an example. It shouldn't shoot this well out of the box but it did.

I'm in the same boat,,,

I'm in the same boat,,,
Except I drove through the snow,,,
Only to find the University I work at has closed until Noon.

So I thought I would just hang out here and surf,,,
I just received the e-mail saying they cancelled the entire day.

Oh well,,,
I got to see some nice rifles.

Yanno SaxonPig,,,
I would bring a six-pack of good beer,,,
Just to get a peek inside of your well stocked gun room.

You have some nice fiery-arms my friend.

What ammo were you using?

I would shoot a few 5-shot clusters and see how things hang together. But that is pretty good in cold weather.

My Dad would get out his Remie 760 30-06 just before hunting season and take a couple shots.... looks good enough as he would say. And it was always good enough.

I wouldn't modify the 10/22. That is about the time (3/89) I purchased my 10/22 Deluxe. It shoots pretty good too for being totally stock except for a scope. Bought it after Weatherby discontinued the Mark XXII semi. I didn't have a 22 rifle with me as they were stored elsewhere until I got the Ruger. I later decided that shooting the Weatherby was not a problem. I mean, just how much could the thing be worth that it mattered?

I've had some experience with 10-22s and have NEVER seen one that would shoot that well without mods. It' looks more like a very good 50 FOOT group by a stock Ruger.

If it aint broke, don't "fix" it.
