Shop staff in terror as armed hold-ups spiral
The number of armed robberies in WA (Western Australia) has increased by two-thirds in the past five years .....

There were more than 420 armed robberies in the first five months of this year, compared with 250 for the same period in 1995, an increase of 67 per cent. Note: The "new" gun laws in Oz came into effect in 1996

Last financial year, there were 1166 robberies where victims were threatened with weapons such as guns, knives, axes and clubs and, increasingly common, blood-filled syringes.

Ballet dancer stabbed in face
A young woman pulled a knife out of her face and staggered into a restaurant with blood spurting from her neck after an unprovoked attack. The guy didn't even speak to her ... just thrust the knife into her face as he walked past on the street -- it went in her face and out through her neck.

The knife cut several arteries ..... last night she was in a serious but stable condition despite nearly having her jugular vein severed.

People warned not to play hero
Police warned people not to follow the actions of staff and customers who tackled an armed robber at an Applecross (suburb) supermarket on Wednesday night.

The gunman fired a shot from a .22 sawn-off rifle when he was wrestled to the ground.

Det-Supt Dave Caporn said it was lucky no-one was injured. Yeah, perhaps ... but they got the prick who turned out to be responsible for at least nine armed robberies across Perth -- but, no, don't say "Thanks"

Court told gun raid uncovered heroin
A raid to uncover firearms in a Mt hawthorn townhouse proved fruitless for police -- until they uncovered heroin buried in the backyard.

... A police dog, which was trained to detect firearms, did not uncover anything ...

This piece too long to cut and paste, so I'll summarise:

Two elderly (in their 70s) hobby farmers on the outskirts of Perth have had tens of thousands of dollars of gear stolen from their farms in the past six months. They take their .22s and take turns staying up each night to keep watch.

The newspaper publishes a front page picture of them, calling them "gun-toting vigilantes". The TV stations all follow it up that night.

The police take their guns off them.

In today's paper a doctor writes:

"... when will we learn... What happened to those new gun laws we were supposed to have? What justification can these individuals have for possessing guns in an urban environment? The very fact that they openly stated their preparedness to use them against other humans suggests to me that they automatically identify themselves as individuals who are completely unsuitable to be allowed anywhere near firearms.

... Isn't it about time we all started to grow up a little more?"

---------------------------------------------

Please excuse me while I take my blood pressure tablets.

For God's sake, what planet are these people on????????????????

(And why couldn't I have been born an American?)

If it weren't here at TFL I'd think you'd posted fiction! This is just unbelieveable.

Well, I guess if i decide to turn to a life of crime I'll head on out to the land of Down-Under.

You know, I realy hate to say this but I hope the armed robberies get worse for a bit. Maybe the sheeple will wake up.

NRA? Good. Now join the GOA!

The NRA is our shield, the GOA will be our sword.

CMOS:

If our newspaper had the guts to go online, you could read it for yourself. Believe me, it's not fiction: it's on pages 4 and 5 uner the banner: The Mean Streets.

And Perth is virtually not much more than a village: just 1.2 million people spread over an area of about 1 800 sq km (that's about what, 1 200 sq miles). The Urban Sprawl personified.

In 1927, my grandparents (literally) tossed a coin to decide whether to leave England for Australia or Canada. It came down Australia. Maybe if I had been born a Canadian it would be easier to emigrate to the USA. It's impossible from here.
