6 power is excellent. You get some magnification and still have decent field of view. The advantage of scopes is that you have one optical plane, instead of three with irons. 4-6 power was de rigur for snipers up until the US introduced 8x and 10x Unertls, 10x Leupolds, and 3-9 ARTS and Redfields. Everydamnbody has this fetish with high mag, and it's counterproductive. You get a tiny field of view, mirage is a pain, and your wobble nearly makes you seasick. But everybody has to have a bigger scope! I saw some dumb*** in the woods when I was hunting in NC a couple years back with an HK91, with some huge 56mm obj variable scope on it. I was laughing so hard I ruined my hunting for the next couple hours. And me with my 44Mag Super Blackhawk, and irons, got me a nice little swamp deer. I have a number of large scopes(nothing bigger than 24x though) and they are all for varmint or target shooting. Biggest practical scope I use for hunting is my 4.5-14 Lepold with the 50mm obj and 30mm tube, and honestly this is pretty big, and I don't think it gives me any real advantage. Semper Fi...Ken
