Snakes and Such

Does anyone know of a .45LC cowboy load/or equivalent shotshell to use in conversion cylinders “for snakes and such”?

CCI makes a .45LC shotshell, good up to about 7 feet or so. Low pressure, should be fine in a conversion. They're kind of hard to find in stores, but midway has 2 boxes left.

My Grand father would make his own years ago for his old 1873 Colt.

18gr. FFFG
thin wad over powder, using dowel rod to seat it
12-16 maybe even closer to 24 pellets of #9 "don't remember the exact number
thin wad over shot, using dowel rod to seat it
small ammount of epoxy to cover it all.

Worked quite well at distances up to maybe 10 yards.

I've considered making them also but with the price of a 25# bag of shot these days, it just doesn't make sense to me.

I have used the CCI 45LC shotshells in my Ruger Old Army with a conversion cylinder on backyard pests and it worked well. Have to get close up, maybe 7 yards max!
