Snake shot in a taurus 85 ported?

I just bought a taurus 85 for carry 38spcl. its ported 6 small holes. Well i bought some snake shot for fishing but can this be fired in this gun since it a snub (not much of a chance for ammo to spread out)? Has anyone done it?

Let me also say what im worried about is the snake shot clogging the porting. behind snake shot is 38spcl. +p ammo just in case.

I have used snake shot in a Taurus 85 for vermin control. However my gun is unported.I think glaser and magsafe do not advise using their ammo in compensated guns so I would check with the snakeshot manufactuer.

Look at the snake shot. It is in a cup. The cup will slide right past the ports.

the muzzle break on the Ragging Bull is another story....

Yes,the snakeshot is in a cup but the shot in a magsafe is enclosed in an epoxy shell with a plastic tip. The snakeshot cup ruptures when it leaves the muzzle turning the handgun into a minnie shotgun. I believe the question is will the cup expand and leave some of it's self in the ports and barrel while passing the ports. And if it will do so will the next round of normal ammunition create excessive pressure? It is always best to check with the makers of the gun and ammunition. I have watched too many people ruin guns at the range by trying silly things with their guns. The only dumb question is the one never asked.

What im talking about is CCI Snakeshot approx. 135 pellets i beleive per round Entirly different from magsafe and glaser. I was just wondering i might have to go get the 3strike( 3 large ball rounds per shot ) ammo for this purpose. PS I keep +p ammo for gators and BG's (you never no when fishing out in the middle of nowhere.

I used glaser and magsafe as a reference only. Both the the shotshells and glasers have plastic shells which contain shot. Glaser does not recommend using these rounds in barrels with ports according to the box I am now looking at. I do not have any shotshell boxes available. As for the larger animals I would go with a larger unported revolver and save the snub for ATM runs. My backwoods gun is a Redhawk 44 with a selection of loads to go with it. I use the 38 in the barn against rodents. No alligators, bears,or lions in there. But now I am curious about shotshells in ported guns so I will go through channels and inquire and post the results.

I went to range this morning and shot no problems also stopped by gun store and owner said he's been doing it for years out of the same model he's also one of those people that carry snakeshot as first round his theory shot to the face and you have plenty of time to place other rounds BG can't harm what he cannot see.

I too went to the range and fired my 85. But I also asked at the range store and recieved the same answer from CCI. You can fire shotshells through ported guns. As for shooting BGs with snake shot first, I would rather use normal ammo as shot loads lose effectivness with range. And Gargolye sun glasses will withstand 12 gauge buck shot. Also suppose the BG does not want to co-operate and you have to get a round into his guts before he puts one into you. Seconds do count and a heavy leather coat will absorb such small shot rounds. And what happened to the gators and snakes?

the guy at the store is the one that uses it for this reason not i, I use 5 shots of golden sabers or if im out at the time ill use remington umc 38 spcl. +p 125 gr. semi jckt hp. not snake shot, i beleive very much in 1 shot 1 kill placement and precision is what im about, so alot of practice is gonna be going into this snub. Today was one handed shooting with sights then with laser(ctc).

Just something to protect myself When i go fishing. I have heard of guys hitting them with 22's then jumping in the water after them(nuts) would really suck if the guy missed. But i have only been here since december but im enjoying the sunshine!!

Back to ported guns- Taurus makes a Tracker 357 7 shot ported in stainless and titanium. It would be a bit more potent on all creatures great and small and the longer barrel will give your 38+Ps a boost. But having the 38 is better than hitting them with the rod.But thats why I carry a 44- it works on everything.Happy fishing.
